We're still experiencing a fantastic striper bite below the Davis Dam on Lake Mohave

by RUSTY
We're still experiencing a fantastic striper bite below the Davis Dam on Lake Mohave. The fishing has been a bit slow lately, but some anglers have had success trolling with hard baits. Our local angler, Charles Viajar, recently caught a sizable striper with a noticeable big belly. He was fishing from his kayak using a swim bait below the Riverside bridge. This striper weighed in

Fishing Report October 10 2023

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
Pyramid Lake opened with a bang, tons of big fish were caught, and it appears as though the 30 pound mark may have been broken. We saw lots of fish over 20 pounds and plenty of numbers as well. The weather was a little cooler than normal and the worries about the conditions soon were squashed by hungry fish chasing minnows.     The biggest downside to the

Great solid fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
October’s a great month. Little warm this weekend for the clinics, but now looks like we’ll be getting some old fashioned October mountain weather. That means you have a solid month of really good fishing on the Ca side, and all winter on the Nevada side. We get our days here in Ca in the Winter, but Nevada is where it’s at in the Winter. If

Check it out! Klay Gustin caught an LCT weighing in at 31 Lbs. and 4 oz.

The Pyramid Lake season is off to a terrific start

by RENO FLY SHOP
The long awaited Pyramid Lake Opener for the 2023-2024 season has finally arrived, with spectacular fishing closely following. While the first day of the season (October 1) was windy and wavy, the days following allowed anglers to get out and fish more effectively. The last few days have fished very well at Pyramid Lake and we anticipate these conditions to continue with the moderate temperatures

Fish have been caught on a variety of flies and techniques recently

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River is currently flowing around 330 cfs at the USGS gauge near downtown Reno. While flow has dropped here in town over the last few weeks, 330 cfs is a great flow to see in October. This should set up our Fall fishing well and as we move into the winter months.  Fish have been caught on a variety of flies and techniques recently.

The lake opened October 1st and while it has started with a bang

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake opened October 1st and while it has started with a bang in terms of some big fish caught, it has been an interesting start to the season in terms of conditions. The lake has seen much colder surface temps than a normal October, causing the north end of the lake to flip already. Due to this there is very low visibility on this

The conditions remain incredibly consistent

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The conditions remain incredibly consistent yet again this week with flows at the Farad gauge reading around 450 CFS and water temps swinging from 52-58 degrees throughout the day. This will make fishing better later in the day and early morning starts are not only unnecessary but can in fact not be as productive as midday or late evening fishing. The fishing seems to get

Water levels at Jakes Creek are in good shape

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Water levels at Jakes Creek are in good shape, appearing to have risen slightly in recent weeks, with the weed growth being somewhat reduced.  Fishing has been fair to good for both bass and trout, with an occasional catfish catch.  Trout are averaging 9-to-14 inches. The road to the reservoir has been impacted by flood waters, but remains completely passable.

Jiggs Reservoir is maintaining a good water level

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Jiggs Reservoir is maintaining a good water level and fishing should be fair to good for trout with cooler temperatures forecasted. Anglers will have better luck contacting fish from a small boat or float tube, rather than from the shore. PowerBait, worms and flashy spinners are recommended. On June 26th, 1750 bluegill were stocked. It will require at least 2 years of good water to

Ruby Lake continues be good for bass, even as water temperatures begin to drop

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ruby Lake continues be good for bass, even as water temperatures begin to drop.  A recent population survey in the South Lake showed a good proportion of bass over the 10 inch range with the majority of the remaining fish measuring between 7 and 10 inches. Soft plastics in darker colors are producing the most catches.  Special Regulations: Minimum size for black bass is 10

Willow Creek Reservoir is maintaining good water levels

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Willow Creek Reservoir is maintaining good water levels. Due to low numbers of fish in the reservoir, fishing is expected to be slow for the foreseeable future. On June 7, 2023, approximately 4,100 channel catfish (4 to 6 inches long) were stocked in the reservoir

Water quality at Wilson Reservoir remains fair with relatively clear

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Water quality at Wilson Reservoir remains fair with relatively clear water and only  a few patches of algae. Water levels at Wilson have been declining and the boat ramp will not be useable for larger watercraft and likely completely inoperable by the end of October. Trout anglers continue to do well from shore and  boat early and late in the day.  Trout fishing should remain

The degraded water quality due to an algal bloom is slowly clearing up

by OR DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE STAFF
The degraded water quality due to an algal bloom is slowly clearing up with  water temperatures dipping into the 50s. Despite poor water quality, anglers are still having success catching trout from shore or from a boat. Anglers continue to find good numbers of fish over 18 inches and 2-3 pounds on average. Anglers wishing to target trout in these conditions should focus on using

Water quality is improving with surface temps dropping into the 50s

by OR DEPARTMENT OF FISH & WILDLIFE STAFF
Water quality is improving with surface temps dropping into the 50s, but some areas of algae still remain. Trout are averaging 16″- 18″. Worms, PowerBait and spinners are enticing fish, as well as a variety of woolly buggers, balanced leeches, and midges for the fly anglers. Limit is 5 trout. Bass fishing remains fair. Crankbaits and soft plastics are working well for black bass, and

Striper Fishing Update

by RUSTY
We've been having some success catching nice-sized stripers along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam. Local angler Mario Escorpiso recently had a successful fishing trip from the shore near the Davis Dam on the Nevada side, landing a striper weighing 16.18 pounds and measuring 37.5 inches in length. Mario used his favorite lure to hook this impressive catch. I've also heard positive
