The herbicide treatment at Comins Lake has concluded and the lake is open again.  Water temperatures are setting at approximately 660F; a much-needed reprieve from the long summer. There are still plenty of large 16+ inch trout available, but the spring stocking has diluted their numbers.  Trout activity should be picking up with cooler daytime temperatures and storm systems coming through.  Trout are being caught on a variety of gear, including nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners (Mepps, Blue Fox, and Panther Martins), as well as wet flies behind a bubble. Spring stocking is complete. Comins Lake has received a total 5,210 Rainbow Trout averaging 9.2 inches and 7,061 Brown Trout averaging 9.3 inches.  A total of 2,490 Tiger Trout were also stocked this spring averaging, 9.7 inches in length.

Largemouth Bass activity should remain high through the month of September.  Expect to catch 11-to-13-inch Largemouth Bass.  A variety of lures are being used to catch bass, such as shallow retrieving Rapalas, soft plastics, and some poppers. Northern Pike angling has produced multiple fish in the 5-to-10-pound range.  Anglers looking to pursue Northern Pike should use flashy lures, RatL traps, and lures that resemble trout, bass, and Bluegill that can be cast or trolled.  Pike should be hanging out in open, slightly deeper water this time of year. There is a limited Bluegill fishery at Comins Lake, and anglers are encouraged to release Bluegill to better establish their population.  Warm water temperatures are hard on trout, please consider fishing early in the morning and late in the evenings when surface temperatures are down to prevent angling related fish mortalities.
