Shore fishing is tough. Trout have moved deeper and trollers are running flashers and nightcrawlers 35 feet deep. There are a lot of ski boats on the lake and that makes it tough for the anglers. Lake has dropped six feet and that have pushed the bass offshore. (775) 266-3550

Fish are moving deeper. Macks are 40 to 50 feet deep in the morning but some are down as deep as 190 to 200 feet. Jigging for mackinaw is starting to become more succesful. Boaters are getting limits from deep water. Trollers start on the southeast side of the lake 25 feet deep with Rapalas, nightcrawler/flashers or black/silver or black/gold Needlefish. Guide Mike Nielsen is fishing for browns and mackinaw in the shallows to depths of 150 feet. Fish are in transition, moving from shallows to deeper water but fish are feeding heavily. Big plugs will work. Trout are stuffed with crayfish. Macks to 20 pounds have been caught near Cave Rock and Sand Harbor, where macks are binging on planted trout. Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Snow last Friday, wind over the weekend kept anglers off the water. Wednesday was the first day a good number of anglers could get out and pursue trout. Smallmouth bite is picking up. Lake is three feet from full. Trout fishing has been hampered by wind. Trollers go 15 feet deep with Rapalas or Needlefish. Shore anglers aren’t having much luck. Guide Mike Nielsen targeted lake trout on Wednesday afternoon and boated nine to 11 pounds. Shallow water bite has been up and down. Some days there are browns, some days none. Toplining for browns in the shallows has produced so-so results. A 12 pound brown was caught Sunday night by Dale Gibbons with guide Mike Nielsen with a CD  Rapala. Mackinaw bite has been yo-yoing between tough and bountiful. Some days it’s tough to scratch fish and some days there are a good number of three to six pound fish. A full moon and numerous earthquakes may have made conditions odd. Guide Gene St. Denis brought in a pair of 12 pound plus fish over the weekend. Toplining action has been similar. Gene St. Denis.

Pressure is light but fishing has been good for those getting out. Anglers spending a half day get limits plus. Trout are averaging 14 inches. Trolling is the best way to go.
