Ruby Lake Update

Access to Ruby Lake is open, with the county road being dry with only a few rough spots.  There are some pinch points where snow along the sides of the road is restricting overall width, but access is still no problem.  All access points on the Refuge are open

The reservoir is completely ice free

The reservoir is completely ice free. The main boat ramp is open. Most of Jet Ski Beach had turbid water with a visibility of less than six inches. Better water clarity can be found towards the dam.  Fly anglers are doing well  from shore catching trout in the 14”-18” inch range.  The water temperature is around 40 F. As of 4/06/23, ice thickness remains at about two feet with 5″-6″ inches of hardpacked snow and slush on top. Angler visitation has dropped off within the last two weeks, but ice fishing season is still holding on. The river above the reservoir is ice free and trout should be starting to run.  As of 3/31/23 the flow above the reservoir was at 146 cfs. High and turbid flows are expected with warmer temps, check back for updates.  Note Special Regulation: Artificial lures with single barbless hooks only above the Lucky Nugget causeway. Limit of 1 trout.

New snow and strong winds have occasionally been causing access issues through the State Recreation Areas due to large drifts. Fishing is best in 5-to-10 feet of water
