Due to the snow at higher elevations, travel in the high country is not recommended at this time except for experienced backcountry travelers. Lakes are starting to open up depending upon location, but travel is still difficult due to snow.

South Fork Reservoir Fishing Report

Fishing has been good here as anglers report catching wipers, trout and black bass. Flows coming into the lake are very heavy running between 30 and 50% above normal. This is bringing lots of muddy water and debris into the south end of the lake. PowerBait seems to be working better than worms for trout. Fly rodders should start using damsel fly nymphs along the

Willow Creek Reservoir Fishing Report

Due to an equipment failure in its water delivery system, and the subsequent loss of its rainbow trout stocks, the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery has suspended its recreational fish stocking program, which included weekly fish plants at Willow Beach. Jakes Creek Reservoir (Boies Reservoir)

Fishing has been good here for trout and fair for bass. Expect the bass bite to pick up once the water warms up with the warmer weather predicted for next week. The fish that were stocked on April 22, are cooperating with anglers as fishermen report catching a number of fish up to 19 inches in length. However, heavy flows continue to come into the lake bringing lots of dirt and debris causing the water to be very turbid, especially at the south end. Thanks to the work done on Jiggs, the lake is holding water and is approximately 40 percent of capacity. Because it has been dry the past few years, there are currently no fish in the lake. NDOW is planning to stock it with trout any day now.

Wildhorse Reservoir - Water levels are up! The island off of the state park boat ramp is only about three to four feet from being covered with water. The lake is approximately 40% full and you can launch a boat, though expect fishing to be slow. NDOW will be stocking Wildhorse with its full complement of approximately 100,000 fish this spring and fall.
