Lyon County Fish Reports

Things Should Be Getting Better

by JIM REID
Kind of the same story on the Sceirine, some good reports and some not so good as well. Just like on the Cali side you need to get your bugs down and get a good dead drift. The water temps are around 50 degrees now and it looks like most of the storms have passed for the time being so things should get better and

No Traffic This Week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We didn’t have any traffic on the ranch this week but with the way the California side and the Rosachi section have been fishing it should be pretty good down there! There’s plenty of room left this week if you want to reserve some time on the private water.

Lahontan Reservoir Catfish Catches

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Thank you Mike Adams for sharing these great fishing photos. They make us want to get outside! Mike's kids caught these last week at Lahontan. The first picture shows Mike and his son holding a 15 lb. 5 oz. catfish caught by his son. The second picture shows Mike holding a 12 lb. 7 oz. catfish caught by his daughter.

Some Anglers Catching 15 Fish A Day

by JIM REID
The ranch is much the same as the California side, more difficult with the higher flows with some anglers reporting up to 15 fish days and others not doing so well. The stoneflies are starting to hatch out down there so some big poxyback stones and the like are doing well. Also they’re still on the San Juans like on the Cali side.

Fishing Has Been Pretty Good

by JIM REID
The East is running at 302 right now, the fishing has been pretty good for some anglers and not so good for others. This flow is definitely a bit tougher to fish than when it’s at lower flows, it requires more weight to get your bugs down to the bottom and larger indicators to carry that weight, think “steelhead fishing”. Anglers who are making all the

Ranch is Still Fishing Well

by JIM REID
The ranch is still fishing well with most anglers reporting 1 to 15 fish per day down there. San Juan worms are still doing great and stonefly nymphs are getting good too. With the nicer weather we’re starting to get more bookings down there so if you want some time on the ranch try to give is a call well ahead of time.

Fish Are Still Very Active

by JIM REID
The river is still at 282 cfs right now. The fishing is a little tougher with the higher flow but the fish are still very active and most anglers are getting into some good fish. Lots of fish in the 12 to 16 inch range with a few pushing over 20”. Still haven’t heard much about streamers but with the warmer weather that should change,

The Ranch Fished Excellent this Week

by JIM REID
The ranch fished excellent this week with reports coming in of anglers getting into an even mix of browns and rainbows and getting 15 to 25 fish per day. Sounds like the best time of the day has been between about 10 and 2 with the best success coming with nymphs. A couple fish have been caught on streamers but nymphing has been the best.

Fish Were Very Feisty and Fought Hard

by JIM REID
We did have one client on the ranch this week and he was able to hook up a dozen or more fish, both browns and rainbows.  His best success was on san juan worms, dark lords and conehead zuddlers.  He reported that the fish were very feisty and fought hard.  Most of the fish were in the 14 to 18 inch range with one or

5 pound Wiper Catches

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
White bass from shore are popular now and anglers have reported catching Wipers up to 5 lbs in the last few weeks. The bass have been a little inconsistent but when you find them, expect to hook up often. Spin fisherman using chartreuse and white jigs, kastmasters, and small spinners are finding good bass numbers. Fly fisherman are finding bass on bright streamers along many

Fishing is Open All Year in Nevada

Fishing is open all year in Nevada. The NDOW planted the broken dam above Gardnerville a couple weeks ago.

The Ranch Fished Very Well this Week

by JIM REID
The ranch fished very well this week, the anglers we spoke with that were down there caught most of their fish on squirmy wormy’s, stonefly nymphs and dead drift crayfish.  The action was good throughout the day down there.  We have quite a few reservations coming up for the ranch so if you want to get on the water down there be sure to call

Fishing About the Same as the California Side

by JIM REID
The ranch has been fishing about the same as the California side, some good reports and some not so good.  There wasn’t as much traffic on the ranch this week as in the last couple weeks so we haven’t had as many reports lately.  The same patterns have been working down there with the addition of some stonefly nymphs.

There Seems to be More Browns Becoming Active

by JIM REID
The ranch is still fishing very well, on par with the other sections of the river.  There seems to be more browns becoming active so this is always fun.  The flies listed above are all working well on the ranch and you could add some stonefly patterns to the arsenal.

Fishing has Been Excellent with Flows Closer to Normal

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
It’s really been an up and down season for the Carson, primarily being up.  Flows remained pretty high till the end of June keeping much of the fishing limited.  Since then, fishing has been excellent with flows closer to normal fall levels now.  The parks and bridges where stocking occurs has definitely been the most consistent option.  Bait fisherman using light lines and leaders drifting

A Few Large Walleye Have Been Caught this Season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The bass have been a little inconsistent but when you find them, expect to hook up often.  The cooler overnight lows have the fish less active in the morning making afternoons and evening the best bet.  Spin fisherman using chartreuse and white jigs, kastmasters, and small spinners are finding fish along sandy beaches.  Fly fisherman are finding bass on bright streamers along many of the

East Walker River Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing continues to be excellent on the East Walker.  It did slow slightly due to extended high temps but will bounce back quickly with fall nearly here.  As water temperatures drop, the caddis activity will slow some but still be the bug of choice until the cold really sets in.  Nymph fishing has slowed slightly but streamer fishing has gotten better with the recent unstable

The Sceirine is Also Still Fishing Very Well

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is also still fishing very well and of course there are no crowds down there.  The dead drift crayfish pattern and sculpzilla patterns have been great for streamers and for nymphs there’s a handful like prince nymphs, dark lords, flashback emergers, poxyback stones and rainbow warriors that have all been doing well.  There are some reservations being booked in advance lately so give

Carson River Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The Nevada side of the Carson River is open all year to fishing.  The water level is low but a few anglers have caught some small rainbows off the broken dam using salmon eggs and a split shot.
