Lyon County Fish Reports

The Ranch Fished Good This Week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The ranch fished pretty good this week, again, the water is just a bit cooler on this section as there are some springs feeding it down there so it gets a little boost of colder water to mellow it out. Most of the anglers down there were able to get into 6 to 10 fish, mainly on nymphs. Dark lords, buckskin caddis, z-wing caddis, rainbow

Carson is Fishing Well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Carson is fishing well but has been pretty crowded in the usual haunts. Flows are still coming down making some access points challenging. Spin fisherman using larger spinner and spoons have caught some good fish recently. Fly fisherman moving larger streamers through deeper water have caught some really healthy fish recently. Larger stonefly nymphs paired with small pheasant tails under the indicator have also

Lahontan Reservoir Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
White bass can be found along most of the sandy beaches late in the day with the occasional wiper showing up. A few walleye and smallies have shown up near rocky shoreline. Fly fisherman are finding success with sinking lines and small chartreuse or white clouser minnows. I’d expect that a 10” white deceiver streamer would entice one of the 15+ pound wipers out there.

Flows Are Currently High

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The East Walker River flows are currently high with higher water demands downstream. Flows will start to come when night time lows start to fall. Fishing will be great when the river comes into shape. Fly fisherman have reported a few fish on larger streamers but high flows make wading a challenge. Spin fisherman using larger plugs or rapalas may entice the occasional larger fish

Fishing Has Been Fair in Hinkson For Bass

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been fair at Hinkson for bass. Bass can be found early and late in the day right next to the tulles and around other structure. In addition to the bass, a few trout are still being caught early and late. Poppers and mice patterns on the surface can be good near the shore and along the tulles. Spin fisherman bouncing small jigs along

Sceirine Ranch Fishing Report

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We did have one report from the Ranch this week, the fishing was pretty good down there for this angler. He was a bit limited on fishable water with the flows the way they are but he was able to get into some very nice fish in some of the softer slots and buckets down there. After having no success on San Juans and dead

Fishing Continues To Get Better With The Heat

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing continues to get better with the heat. White bass can be found along most of the sandy beaches early and late in the day with the occasional wiper showing up. Fly fisherman are finding success with sinking lines and small chartreuse or white clouser minnows. Spin fisherman are doing very well with small spoons and bright kastmasters. Structure and ledges are key when looking

East Walker Flows Are Really High

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Like most of our other rivers across the state, the East Walker River flows are really high. The summer heat and remaining snowpack will likely extend these higher flows into July. Look for conditions to change quickly here as the peak watering season downstream comes to an end.

Fishing Has Been Off The Hook

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We had a couple anglers on the ranch this week and, in their words, it was off the hook! With well over 20 fish per day caught, the fishing has been great down there. Nymphing was the hot ticket and we didn’t get any news about streamers. Squirmy wormie’s, z-wing caddis, crawling caddis, dark lords and caddis emergers  all did very well. Give us a

No One Fishing At The Ranch This Week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We haven’t had anyone on the ranch this past week, it should be fishing pretty much like the California and Rosachi sections of the EW though. As stated above the flows make things more difficult but not impossible.

Ranch Still Fished Well This Week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The ranch still fished pretty well this week in spite of the higher flows. Most of the anglers this week reported 8 to 10 fish per day with some of them taping around 20 inches. This flow makes it harder to get these fish to the net as it gives them so much more power but it’s still doable! San Juan worms and Pat’s rubberlegs

Sceirine Ranch Fishing Report

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The clients we had on the ranch this week all did very well, lots of fish in the 14 to 18 inch range as well as some around 20. Again, the San Juan worm seemed to be the go-to fly, as well as rubber legs and dark lords.

Mason Valley Wildlife Fishing Report

by SARAH SIKORA
Kyle from Yerington, Nevada was out at Mason Valley hatchery ponds today and caught limits of trout today, 5 Rainbows. The weather was warm and the bass were big, but weren't bitting any of the spinners, jigs or worms we were using. Lots of people out fishing the hatchery ponds today, ran into a guy who caught a 4.5 lb. bass easlier with a frog

Carson River Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With current annual snowpack at 168%, the Carson drainage is likely to remain high with melt well into June. High water tactics will be the key to success over the next several months. Look for fish in slower moving water and along protected banks. Fly fisherman high sticking small bright streamers and dark nymphs are likely to find the occasional fish. Spin fisherman should find

East Walker River Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
We’ll likely see this get a little crowded over the coming months with high water nearly everywhere else. Flows are currently stable around 300cfs. A little high,  but certainly still fishable. This should stay good for several weeks before flows increase for summer releases. Bright streamers and large dark stonefly nymphs have been good with the high water. Spin fisherman covering lots of water are

Fishing Has Been Good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good at Hinkson. Fly fisherman using small pheasant tails and midge pupa under the indicator, or slowly retrieved behind a floating or intermediate line has worked well. Fish are actively feeding on the surface early and late in the day when the wind is calm. Fishing should remain good through spring and the bass fishing should really turn on in the next
