The Ranch is Still Fishing Excellent

by JIM REID
The ranch is still fishing excellent, lots of fish in the 16 to 20 inch range are being caught down there right now.  It seems the fishing is pretty consistant throughout the day, the cooler weather is no doubt helping out the mid day bite.  Nymphs, dead drift crayfish, great basin drifters and san juan worms have all been doing great down there.  We’re getting

by CHAD WOODS
Beau Drake Jr who is 9 years old a Fallon residents who has been fishing this lake since he was a 1 year old caught a monster wiper 19lb 32" long. On Friday 09-14-2018 right before sundown Beau Jr and his dad Beau Drake was out fishing on their boat by bench 26 using a pink crankbait and 15lb test on his fishing pole.  He thought

Fishing has Been Good this Season and it will Pick-Up

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good this season and it will pick-up with the cooler temps on the way. Recently, burnt orange leech and sheep creek specials slowly retrieved on sinking or sink tip lines have been the best bet.  Fish will likely spend more time in the shallows and on the surface with the season change.  Small terrestrials and midge patterns will likely draw a strike

Fishing Continues to be Excellent on the East Walker.

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing continues to be excellent on the East Walker. It did slow slightly due to extended high temps but will bounce back quickly with fall nearly here. As water temperatures drop, the caddis activity will slow some but still be the bug of choice until the cold really sets in. Nymph fishing has slowed slightly but streamer fishing has gotten better with the recent unstable

The Sceirine Fished Excellent this Past Week!

by JIM REID
The Sceirine fished excellent this past week, several clients we had down there had exceptional days on the water. There was lots of action with dead drift crayfish as well as various stonefly patterns. They were eating much larger flies than is typical on the California side this past week. With the flows and water temps the way they are it’s a perfect time to

The Sceirine is Still Fishing Very Well!

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is still fishing very well, lots of nice fish in both the riffle water and the deeper pools. Nymphing has been the best, both caddis nymphs and small midge patterns, as well as san juan worms. As with the California side the dry/dropper action has slowed up quite a bit so just go to the bottom.

Still Lots of Nice Fish in the 20+ inch Range

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is still fishing well and the fish down there are also still feeling happy and healthy. The mornings are the best just like the Cali side. There are still lots of nice fish in the 20+ inch range hanging out on the ranch these days. Dry/dropper rigs and drifting crawdad patterns seems to be the best technique down there right now.

Sceirine is Fishing Excellent!

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is fishing excellent as well right now, lots of nice fish up to around 24 or 25 inches are being caught down there.  Like the California side, it’s best to book just a half day in the AM for the best action as well as the safest time for the fish.  Drifting a dead drift crayfish has been very good down there as

The Sceirine is Still Fishing Well!

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is still fishing well, probably a bit better than the California side, mainly due to the lack of pressure. Dead drift crayfish, dark lords and soft hackles have all been working down there in addition to the flies mentioned above. Give us a call if you want to book some time on the ranch!

The Ranch is Still Hanging in There!

by JIM REID
The ranch is still hanging in there with some pretty good reports coming in from down there. Like the Cali side, the Nevada side has benefitted from the cooler weather and the fish have become a little more active. In addition to the patterns that are working upstream, dark lords, prince nymphs, copper johns and soft hackles have also been working on the ranch.

Lahontan Wiper Update

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Looks like fishing is good at Lahontan Reservoir. Check out the 15 lb. wiper Dante Ray caught last week! He says he caught other fish this day too. One of them even bigger than this using crankbaits and swimbaits.

Still Some Nice Fish Being Caught.

by JIM REID
Like the other sections of the EW the ranch has toughened up a bit but there are still some nice fish being caught. It seems as though the browns are a little more shy than the rainbows lately as the bows are making more of a showing down there than the browns. Most of the same patterns that are working on the California section will

Nymphing has Been Holding Out Very Well!

by JIM REID
We had a few clients on the ranch this past week and they all did pretty well down there, the water on the ranch does not get near as much pressure as the rest of the river (of course) so the fish down there don’t seem to get as picky as on other stretches. We didn’t have any streamer reports from down there but the

Carson River Fish Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Over the last few weeks the NDOW has been planting rainbow and brown trout. The fishing has been good up by the old broken dam area. The fish are scattered and you may need to do a little walking. But where else would you rather be on a hot summer day. For more information stop by the Anglers Edge.

Still Lots of Nice Browns in the 20+ inch Range!

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is still fishing very well though we have been getting a lot of clients and reservations for down there lately.  San juan worms, squirmy wormy’s, dark lords, military mayflies, buckskin caddis, Fox’s poopah and LaFontaines deep sparkle pupa are all doing well down there. There are still lots of nice browns in the 20+ inch range roaming the ranch.

Nymphing is Still the Best Down there!

by JIM REID
The Sceirine is still fishing very well, the last couple anglers we had down there were able to get into good numbers of fish though not too many over about 16 or 18 inches. Nymphing is still the best down there as well. The California side of the river tends to get pretty crowded this time of the year so if you want some water

The Ranch is Also Fishing Excellent Right Now!

by JIM REID
The ranch is also fishing excellent right now, lots of fish, both browns and bows being caught down there. There are lots of anglers interested in fishing the ranch lately so try to call ahead to make sure there’s room for you if you want to go down there! In addition to the flies mentioned above there has also been some good action with dark

Book Some Private Water Where it’s Not Crowded!

by JIM REID
Like the California side, the ranch was much tougher this past week with the higher flows, now that the flows are back down it should fish great. The same patterns as on the California side should work well down there, also with the heavier leaders and tippets. With the lower water the public areas can get pretty crowded sometimes so if you want to book

Giant Wiper!

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
"That's not a carp, that's not a carp!" - Travis Hawks, NDOW fisheries biologist. Today our fisheries biologists electroshocked Lahontan Reservoir in search of white bass. At first they came across a lot of carp.... but then they found this 17.8 pound wiper. What a giant! Not long after they shocked another 17.4 pound wiper. After measuring them, both fish were safely released! Go catch

Some Hawgs Over 20 Inches!

by JIM REID
The ranch is also fishing excellent lately, both on streamers and nymphs. All of the flies listed on the above report should also work well on the ranch section. Lots of nice fish in the 14 to 20 inch range are being reported as well as some hawgs over 20.
