Mountain View Park Pond Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The hatchery trucks are out working hard which means that many of our community ponds in the western region have received one round of trout this season. As weather and water conditions allow for it, they’ll continue to get fish supplemented as needed. Powerbait off the bottom is typically the best go-to fishing method at the western community ponds. When vegetation covering the bottom is an

We haven’t had any reports back from the ranch lately

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We haven’t had any reports back from the ranch lately, I would imagine it should be fishing much like the Rosachi section, maybe a little better since it doesn’ t get much pressure this time of the year. If you want to book some time up there just give is a call.

The Rosachi section has started to pick up a bit with the warmer weather

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The Rosachi section has started to pick up a bit with the warmer weather, I’d say still not red-hot but the anglers I’ve spoken to have been getting into some good fish, even some that have been well over 20” lately! Sounds like Pat’s rubberleg, poxyback stones, golden and brown stones, San Juan worms, and various small nymph and midge patterns have all been doing

East Walker River Fishing Report

by LIZ WEIRAUCH
24cfs, a perfect time to see where the holes are! Golden stones moving, black midges 18-20 and BWO are coming off. No lips to be seen so nymph it. Top fly a streamer … they are getting hungry! The afternoon ‘lajar’ (ice melt from waters above) should be minimal in these next days … since most should be already melted and not freezing with these

Couple nice 20+ inchers last week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We had a few anglers on the Ranch over the last couple weeks, the water is low and cold but the ones I was able to get a report from did get into some fish, and a couple nice 20+ inchers too. I wouldn’t say the fishing was red-hot but they did have some success. Most of the fish I know of were caught on

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed until April 30, 2022 I haven’t heard any news from the Nevada side of the EW this past couple weeks. It’s been very cold lately with night time temperatures from around -10 to -18 degrees. They did bump the flow on the river this week to about 35 cfs, this is mainly to keep any anchor ice from

With the low flows it’s best to try small midge and nymph patterns

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed until April 30, 2022 I haven’t heard much from the Nevada side of the EW, just 1 or 2 reports that were just ok. This time of the year with the low flows it’s best to try small midge and nymph patterns and focus on the deeper pools and runs where there will be more fish hanging out.

Low flows are making for tough fishing recently on the East Walker

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Low flows are making for tough fishing recently on the East Walker. Currently flows are low, roughly 20cfs.  Fish are definitely concentrated in the larger pools. Fly fisherman using small nymphs under larger dries (dry/dropper) are picking up the occasional good trout. Fish are spooky so be sure to watch your shadows and keep your approach to the water quiet.

Mountain View pond have also received rainbow trout in the last few weeks

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Many of the urban ponds in the western region have received a fall stocking. The summer vegetation covering many of the ponds is finally starting to back off making for much easier access. Marilyn’s pond and Baily pond have fished well through the summer and continue to get fish periodically as conditions allow. Kinney Pond and Mountain View pond have also received rainbow trout in

Open all year to open fishing with lures or bait

Open all year to open fishing with lures or bait.

Flows are prime on the Carson

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows are prime on the Carson currently at 200cfs near Carson City. Fishing has been good to fair near broken dam. The river has not yet been stocked after the heavy rain so fishing has been hit or miss. Small dark spinners and streamer flies have been best. Prime temperatures have fish willing to chase moving lures in protected pools and runs.

Fishing during late warm afternoons have been best

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The sandy shallow beaches are still producing a few white bass on bright flies and spinners but fishing has slowed with water levels rising. Fishing during late warm afternoons have been best.

Lots of Nice Fish Being Caught at The Ranch

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We’re also still getting good reports from the rancl lately, lots of nice fish being caught down there. As with the California side, it’s been mostly nymphing with some streamer action thrown in. In addition to the patterns listed above you can try a hare’s ear, dark lord and San Juan worms.
