by DOUG BUSEY
The area south of the Lahontan Fish hatchery has produced some rainbows. Anglers have been drifting salmon eggs with a split shot.

Fishing Has Been Good to Fair

by DOUG BUSEY
The NDOW planted the river recently with rainbow trout. Fishing has been good to fair depending on your location. I personally like to fish the Wilson Canyon area.

Morning Fishing From Shore Has Been Productive

by RENO FLY SHOP
Morning fishing from shore has been fairly productive with indicators and balanced leeches and retrieving wooly buggers and booby flies. After the morning rush, fishing from shore cools off considerably. The LCT will move into deeper water, but most of the active fish are below 50’, too deep to effectively employ a fly line even with heavy flies. Not to mention the effects of catching

Some Days Are Better Then Others on The Truckee

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River is holding steady and 340 cfs, but temperatures are fluctuating quite a bit. Some days have been better than others, but the fish have been steady in water that is a walking pace and slower. Fish are putting on weight for the winter and are eating well in the afternoons and evenings when things start to warm up. We have been focusing

First Cutthroat Caught on Tahoe Since 1900's

by TAHOE SPORTFISHING STAFF
Monday update: One of the first cutthroat was caught today since the 1900’s! #shutupandfish Over fishing of the Lahontan Cutthroat led to the ultimate demise of the population in the late 1800’s. Earlier this month the national fish hatchery complex released 5,000 Lahontan cutthroat trout back into their native waters.

When Pyramid Lake “turns-over”

by RENO FLY SHOP
Recently Mike Anderson put in the On-the-Water report that Pyramid Lake began to “turn-over” or “flip”. I thought it would be a good opportunity to review what happens to a lake when it turns over and how it is a good thing for the lake and specifically how it is a good thing for fly fishing Pyramid Lake. Here is Mike’s most recent on-the-water report that

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Nice balmy fall weather on the Truckee River.  Cold as balls in the morning. Warms up nice in the afternoon. Typical fall weather in Tahoe/Reno. As far as the fishing, well, it’s good. October is a great month here and anywhere to fish for trout in the West. I think November is better than October, but the weather sure is nice right now. Flows have dropped, nice and

Pyramid Lake Water Temps Already at 64 Degrees

by RENO FLY SHOP
The opener has come and gone, and it was a busy one. Fishing was a little slow with only a few fish caught through the day. Water temps are already at 64 degrees (which is much cooler than past openers). Fish are looking to chase tui-chub, but with temperatures dropping quickly the bait fish are heading into deeper water. Retrieving Booby Flies, Pyramid Lake Beetle,

Truckee River is Stabilizing Around 375 cfs

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River is fluctuating a bit from the storms earlier in the week, but is stabilizing around 375 cfs. Fall is definitely upon us. Storms are beginning to stack up and colder temperatures are moving in. On colder days fish have been becoming active later in the afternoon. Fly selection is getting simpler as most insects are tucking into rocks and preparing to hibernate.

Truckee River Fishing Has Been Very Good

by MATT KOLES
Big changes ahead this week weather wise.  Lows could get into the teens here in the Hirsch, highs in the upper 40’s. Nice and cold at night and cool during the day in Reno as well. Maybe not much of an Indian Summer this fall. Fishing has been very good if you plan your fishing when the trouts are feeding. I think most of the time we
