Western Nevada Fish Reports

Pyramid Lake is On

by DOUG RODRICKS
Pyramid Lake is on. As many of you know this is prime time to get into some real nice ones, and the weather is more favorable too. Some large hogs have been making their way to the net and beach “by force of course” and we are seeing some fish in the double digit range daily. We have plenty of openings for April so give

Big Brown Before Sunrise

Mike Nielsen checked in with us today with this big Brown catch before the sunrise on Lake Tahoe this morning.

Having Fun With Tahoe Gold

Double Hook Ups

by HANS MOXLEY
The guys from Tahoe Tech not only can they take care of things on land, They really get the job done out on the water as well. Great job with that double hook up !!!!

Truckee River Report April 1st

by MATT KOLES
Another week of rain and snow on the way. Nice weekend though, after yet another week of rain and snow. Flows have actually dropped a bit and clarity is really good on the Truckee River. Saw lots of folks out this weekend here in Hirschdale and from what it sounds like, most folks were catching a few fish. Access is pretty good now, most of the low

Awesome Day on Lake Tahoe

by HANS MOXLEY
Great fishing with you guys today, what a beautiful day !!! Cruising back in from some awesome fishing.

Fish Are Still Very Active

by JIM REID
The river is still at 282 cfs right now. The fishing is a little tougher with the higher flow but the fish are still very active and most anglers are getting into some good fish. Lots of fish in the 12 to 16 inch range with a few pushing over 20”. Still haven’t heard much about streamers but with the warmer weather that should change,

Great Fishing

by HANS MOXLEY
Great fishing out there even though we had some nasty East wind blowing out there WOW guys great looking fish !!!

Great Hookups

by MIKE NIELSEN
Well yesterday we literally struggled to keep the fish tight. Great hookups, runouts then slack. Today we did not have the volume of bites but made em count. The boys took some for dinner then after we came in my son came down to boat to help clean and got a couple rainbows!

Lake Tahoe, not Donner

by SHAUN RAINSBARGER‎
Very rough day, 2 to 5 foot waves, ended with 4 macs ti 5 pounds

Mackinaw Biting Around The Lake

by DOUG BUSEY
Best areas to fish for mackinaw trout is off the Cal/Neva point or around Carnelian Bay. The drop offs in the area are dramatic and can change from 100 to 600 feet quickly. The shelf out from Tahoe City is also productive. On the south end, many anglers are successful toplinning with #9 to a #11 Rapala from the Cave Rock area to Logan Shoals.

Fishing Has Still Been Slow

by DOUG BUSEY
Fishing has still been slow. I caught 4 rainbows last weekend using green Powerbait. I fished on the south end of the lake. I spoke with a couple trollers that caught a few of the planter fish in the 8 to 12 inch class. I trolled the lake a couple weeks ago and had  fair success in the morning and then the bite quickly turned

Water Clarity Is DIfferent Around The Lake

by MIKE NIELSEN
Smaller grade of fish overall but still fun. Water clarity is very different in certain areas. Some places very murky already with some runoff while other areas it’s as clear as I can ever recall. I was showing the group bottom with naked eye at 60 ft with ease. The video looks like 5 ft in about 20 plus!

More Browns to Come

by MIKE NIELSEN
All warmed up and ready to go. Clients wanted 9 am departure, I could get used to sleeping in! Love Mondays with lil wind. No weekend warriors and most will be off water, Private lake fishing!! More Brown trout to come!

by PYRAMID LAKE GUIDES
As usual the beaches are full! Anglers are anxious to get good fishing spots super early in the morning. Crosby Lodge is pretty much booked up, and the nightly dinner specials are in full swing. The fishing is good!

Try Indicator FIshing

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Fishing at Pyramid Lake switches from a size game to a numbers game as fish move in to shallower water in anticipation for spawn. Try indicator fishing using midges in red, black or wine or balanced leeches in Black or Olive. Stripping streamers is another good option right now using Buggers, Beetles, or general purpose streamers in olive white or black. RECOMMENDED GEAR: 9-11 Ft. 7-8 Wt.

Early Season Can Be One of The Best Times to Fish

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Big water should not deter you from fishing this time of year as early season can be one of the best times to go. With most of the water coming out of Lake Tahoe, the river is running clear and fishing smaller BWO and Midge patterns is still an option. Skwala stones are starting up and are the big calorie option for these fish and

Good One Day and Tough The Next

by RENO FLY SHOP
Good one day and tough the next seems to be the theme of recent days at Pyramid Lake. Water temperatures are reaching that 50 degree mark on less cloudy days. This is bringing the fish in close for a streamer bite in the late afternoon. Using a floating line with a smaller weighted streamer or balanced leech can be a fun effective way to target

Higherwater Fishing on Truckee Right Now

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has jumped up a little bit from the last report and is above 2,000 CFS at the Reno gage. The river is a little off color with the increased flow due to recent rains and tributary contribution. The current storms should move through pretty quick so the river should drop back into great fishable conditions soon. Fishing before this recent bump in flow

Bite Has Picked Up

by DOUG RODRICKS
It has been a good bite here as the winter storms have stirred up the giant cutthroat to move into the beaches to feed. The bite has really picked up here lately with some real monsters putting themselves in the mix. Popcorn beetles, balanced leeches, midges, and black buggers have been the flies of choice lately. The water can be off color south of Wino,

Approaching Storms Will Make Pyramid Even Better

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fishing at Pyramid Lake is good right now and with a couple approaching storms should get even better.
