Good Fishing if You Can Find the Soft Water

by MATT KOLES
Still a bit cold and snowing.  No snow here in the Hirsch, but still snowing on top. Big winter so far. Lots of water in the river too. About 1,600 k here, and just a bit higher in Nevada. Snows melting a bit and getting to the river is a little easier this last week. Good fishing if you can find the soft water. The Truckee River will

The Winter Storms Have Stirred Up the Giant Cutthroat

by DOUG RODRICKS
It has been a good bite here as the winter storms have stirred up the giant cutthroat to move into the beaches to feed. Popcorn beetles, balanced leeches, midges, and black buggers have been the flies of choice lately. The water can be off color south of Wino, but it has been cleaner and more consistent from the North nets area. Some of the popular

Really Good From Here Through Memorial Day.

by RENO FLY SHOP
Looks like there is a chance that we are currently receiving the last of the big cold storms of the season. I know that we will still have some storms, but we are hoping that they large cold crazy ones have now passed. The Truckee river is moderately high currently. Bouncing around 1,600-1,800 cfs. This can be a challenging level but one can be rewarded with

Fishing is Super Good.

by MATT KOLES
Still raining and snowing. Mostly rain here last week. Good, melted a lot of snow.  Still hard to get to the river here in the Hirsch, but better than the week before.  Down about Farad, most of the snow has melted off.  We still have about 4-5 feet at my house. The gates are open on Lake Tahoe. I imagine them to stay open for the foreseeable

High water is a Great Time to Get Out

by RENO FLY SHOP
Higher water on the Truckee river is a great time to get out.  Fish the edges of the channel and still look for BWOs on cloudy days.

Not many anglers have gone out due to weather.  Last weekend I fished for about six hours with friend Tom Blotter.  We boated and released 3 fish in the 14 to 16 inch class.  The lake level has come up about 3-4 feet and the water clarity is good.  Surface temps were 37 to 39 degrees.  But the fishing was slow for boaters.  Shore anglers

Good, Good Streamer Flows

by MATT KOLES
Snowing again. Ha ha ha. All you can do is just laugh and be thankful for all the precip at this point. Big rain and snows this week again. If you have a second home up here, best make sure you get your roofs cleared, mainly the ice damns, and clear out your propane tank. Big wet snows on top of all this snow is a recipe
