Still Digging Out

by MATT KOLES
Still digging out. Tons of snow. Mammoth and Squaw Valley have set February snowfall records. That’s impressive considering we’re just a little halfway through the month. Wow. Honestly, I haven’t seen this much snow here in Hirschdale. Even more than ’17 I’ve literally just been blowing snow, or shoveling it since the last report. It’s a lot of work when we get this much snow. 80 has

Anglers are Seeing Quite a Few Fish in the 3-6lb

by DOUG RODRICKS
Some big boys and girls have been coming to shore this week and the winter storms have been bringing more fish closer the beach. Anglers are seeing quite a few fish in the 3-6lb mark with some standout 19lbers in the mix. Give us a call if you are interested in fishing this area as we have dates available for the remainder of the month.

Things are Starting to Heat Up on Pyramid Lake

by RENO FLY SHOP
Things are starting to heat up on Pyramid Lake. Recent storms have brought the fish in close and while air temps have been cold water temps near the shore have been in the high 30’s and low 40’s each afternoon. Anglers have been mixing success with stripping Boobies and fishing midge and balanced leeches under indcators. While searching depths with a floating line the RIO Midge Tip

The Fish Keep Coming

by GLENN LEMON
The fish keep coming!  Lots of good sized fish being caught!  Both on the strip and the indo.  Love the storms for keeping the fish moving.

NDOW Planted 4000 lbs of Trout Recently

by DOUG BUSEY
Not many anglers venturing out due to weather. The lake has risen considerably over the last couple weeks. NDOW planted the lake with over 4000 lbs of rainbow trout recently. Shore anglers have been having the best luck with Green Powerbait or inflated night crawlers. A few weeks ago while I was at work, my fishing partner Tom Blotter from Minden NV sent me a

Check Out the Fish Hatchery

by DOUG BUSEY
Located of highway alt 95 between Wabuska and Yerington NV. The area opened to fishing on the second Saturday of February, which was last weekend. Check your regulations to see special rules for each area to fish. The only areas open are Hinkson Slough, Crappie Pond, Bass Pond, North Pond, Walker River and the Cooling ponds. Hinkson was recently planted with rainbow and brown trout,

Quality in Size Being at the Forefront

by PYRAMID LAKE GUIDES
February fishing on Pyramid Lake has been similar to December and January, with quality in size being at the forefront rather than numbers; although when a storm blows in we do see the numbers jump up. It’s been cold so bundle up!

Fishing is Usually Pretty Good with the Higher Flows.

by MATT KOLES
Digging out. Sorry for the delayed post. This is the first time I’ve been able to log into my site. It’s still slow as F, but hopefully it gets fixed this week. You can always keep up on my Instagram. Big, big snows, kinda 2010-2011, around here right now. Big cold GOA lows coming down and hammering us. We have well over 6 feet of snow here

A Winter's Day on Lake Tahoe

by DENIS PEIRCE
On some of these dreary wet days it may not seem like a good fishing season, but if you take a longer term perspective this is close to a perfect winter. We depend on winter to provide the water the fish need to swim in. It is the Sierra snowpack that stores the water for the coming year. The winter of 2018-19 is shaping up to

Topaz is Stocked

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
ATTENTION ANGLERS: All fishing ponds at Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area are covered with ice for the opening this weekend. There is not much, if any, open water. The ice is thin and dangerous. Instead, we recommend you head to Topaz Lake (photographed below). We stocked it with 6,520 rainbow trout last week, and 4,365 rainbows this week! Enjoy!

Fishing was Fantastic

Week 5 Topaz Fishing Derby Results

Started Getting Some Fish

by PYRAMID LAKE GUIDES
Saturday started off slow and Mother Nature decided to rough us up a bit.  Once we got into some calmer water in the afternoon we started getting some fish.  Including Johnny and Zack’s largest trout they have ever caught.

Reno Fly Shop Pyramid Lake Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
We believe the approaching storms should really improve conditions at the lake and on the River. Recent high pressures and blue-bird conditions slowed the fly fishing at Pyramid Lake and the Truckee River. It seems to be okay one day and not so hot the next.  Early / late in the day or some cloud cover is consistently producing the best success. Wind/waves also help

Reno Fly Shop Truckee River Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River is fishing very Winterlike. Small dark thin bodied nymphs seem to be the most consistent. We anticipate Skwala will begin showing up and we have begun to stock some really great stonefly patterns for the chase. Fish are holding in medium/slow water with a bit of depth. We anticipate that the Rainbow Trout will start to color up and stage pre-spawn. It

by PYRAMID LAKE FISHERIES

The Office was Nice Today.

by MIKE NIELSEN
The office was nice today. T-shirts 48 degrees and calm! Kept some for dinner, released some and lost a few!

When Do You Use a Ladder at Pyramid Lake?

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fishing from ladders has become synonymous with Pyramid Lake. Specifically during the spring season, as temperatures rise and people come out from hibernation and begin lining up awaiting their chance to land a truly monstrous trout. Most people are unaware of the reasoning behind ladder fishing and its true purpose at Pyramid Lake. I hope to break down the elements and reasons for using ladders

Flows are Great All Over the River.

by MATT KOLES
Rolling right through Winter.  Good solid fishing on the Truckee River.  Remember, Winter is not the time for lots of fish, but quality fish, yes. Flows are great all over the river.  300 something here, and about 400 and change down in the desert.  Really good for this time of year.  The Truckee River could either be blown out around now, or very very low.  About

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by ANTHONY-CALNEVA FISHING
On Monday, went out solo and trolled for a few hours. Landed 5 total, 4 were small stockers and 1 was about 1.5 pounds.  Trolled the north side of the lake with rapalas.  Water temp was 42.9 degrees and water was glass.  Spoke to anglers at the ramp and they worked the south side trolling nightcralwers behind flashers.  They picked up what looked like an
