Western Nevada Fish Reports

The derby has ended with many large fish caught this year as well as many tagged fish. Final results are, 1st place Jeff Sullivan at 9 lbs 11.1 oz, 2nd place Aaron Talhelm at 9 lbs 7.7 oz, 3rd place Bob Brister at 9 lbs 4.8 oz, 4th place David Rodden at 8 lbs 13 oz and 5th place Steve Neilsen at 8 lbs 9oz.

Some nice fish over the 10 lb mark have been coming to the net here. It has been a consistent bite in the afternoon from 11 – 2 pm. Fish are biting in calm conditions as well as windy. Had a great clinic this weekend on the Truckee River. Other than that, not too much difference since a week ago. Flows have gone up to almost 3000k here in Hirschdale with more releases from Boca. We really aren’t getting the big runoff yet, but a slow good melt. We’ll get that soon enough. For now enjoy these flows while they last. Clarity ain’t bad either. So good

The East is running at 302 right now, the fishing has been pretty good for some anglers and not so good for others. This flow is definitely a bit tougher to fish than when it’s at lower flows, it requires more weight to get your bugs down to the bottom and larger indicators to carry that weight, think “steelhead fishing”. We are having fun with Tahoe Gold. We have harvested some for food but we have released a very large number so far. Still waiting for some good size with most running under 5 lbs so far.

The guys from Tahoe Tech not only can they take care of things on land, They really get the job done out on the water as well. Great job with that double hook up !!!!

The river is still at 282 cfs right now. The fishing is a little tougher with the higher flow but the fish are still very active and most anglers are getting into some good fish. Lots of fish in the 12 to 16 inch range with a few pushing over 20”. Still haven’t heard much about streamers but with the warmer weather that should change,

Well yesterday we literally struggled to keep the fish tight. Great hookups, runouts then slack. Today we did not have the volume of bites but made em count. The boys took some for dinner then after we came in my son came down to boat to help clean and got a couple rainbows!

Very rough day, 2 to 5 foot waves, ended with 4 macs ti 5 pounds
