This January has fished well! In January 2018 we saw mild weather with warm temps making the fishing slow. January 2017 we had flooding resulting in lake closure for 6 weeks. This year the storms have been consistent making for decent fishing. Similar to December daily numbers are not at their highest but quality by means of size make up for it; big fish are

Good solid week on the Truckee River. Temps were much warmer and trouts seemed to respond to the warmer water temps.  Still cold in the mornings, expect that for January, but things have warmed up into the 50’s in Reno, 40’s in Truckee, most afternoons.  Those warm afternoons get the fish moving. We will have rain and snow this week. Still doing a lot of streamer fishing

First time fishing Topaz, caught two and missed one.  All trolling with Rapalas. Just moved to the area and looking forward to fishing Topaz more.

Hello fellow anglers, Fishing at Topaz Lake is off to a good start for 2019. The weather cooperated, with the only drawback was that the morning temperature on January 1st was 9 degrees at 6:30 am. Big snows for the Truckee River. We got almost 2 feet here in the Hirsch over the weekend. Much more on top.  A good old fashioned Sierra storm system.  More on the way too.  Looks like systems should be coming in all week.  Storm door is open I guess for now.   Just have to time your fishing and traveling accordingly.  Trouts like rain and snow. We had a successful opener with 33 fish over 2lbs turned in all averaging around 3-4lbs and had a total of 61 fish turned in for week 1.  There was a total of 12 tagged fish turned in the 1st day and 17 tags total for the week.  Our biggest fish for the week was a 9lb 7.7oz 24 1/2 in rainbow caught by Aaron Talhelm

Fish ninja does it again!  Over the years I’ve netted many large fish and taken many photos for him.  Great angler and Great person always enjoy fishing with him.

Another picture perfect day out there today, the calm before the storm coming I guess. Father and son got the job done on the lake today. Fishing was great!  

Fishing was just a bit off today,  landed 5 and lost one but it took some doing. Beautiful day out there!
