Fly Anglers Streamer Fishing Tends to be Best this Time of Year

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
We are expecting another great opener for Pyramid this year, with bait balls near shore already being reported.  For fly anglers streamer fishing tends to be best this time of year and a good Tui Chub imitation will be a must for a successful day.  A storm is expected to move in Tuesday through Wednesday and should further improve shore fishing.  Anglers looking to use

I Expect Much Better Fishing Now.

by MATT KOLES
Finally a break in the weather.  Fall is here on the Truckee River. Near record high’s in Reno this past weekend and now very cool fall like weather in the Truckee Meadows, and Truckee/ Lake Tahoe area.  Time to get the wood stacked. Very tough fishing at times, and now pretty good fishing.  Those last few weeks of September were hot.  It’s nice to actually have some

Lake Tahoe Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing was a little slow with the full moon.  Anglers have been getting 3-10 fish per trip. Gene St Denis reported he has been catching mackinaw in the 3 to 6 pound class.  He has also caught a few rainbows in the 4 to 5 pound class.  The fish have been healthy and fat. Best areas have been the Tahoe shelf or Camp Richardson.

Opening Day is October 1st

by DOUG BUSEY
Opening day is October 1st. Do not have a fishing report for obvious reasons.  You can check online for regulations and to get your fishing and boating permits.  There are very special rules that anglers need to abide by when fishing Pyramid lake.

Carson River Fishing Report

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Rolling right through September on the Truckee River.  Cold nights, warm afternoons on the Truckee side, cool nights, and hot afternoons on the Reno side.  Be nice to get some weather, but hard to complain about how nice the weather is. Not much change really in the last few weeks on the river.  Flows and weather and bugs remain about the same. Key would be to fish all

Stripers have been biting very well from the shore line, mainly off the rip rap in front of the boat shop and also in the canal by the entrance booth. First few hours in the morning, stripers have been biting a lot of top water baits and kastmasters and also chicken liver or nightcrawlers throughout the day. Catfish can also be caught around the lake

Great Time to be Out on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Another fine week on the Truckee River.  Bit windy, but pretty great weather.  Looks to be the same this week, minus the winds.  Cold mornings in Truckee, followed by nice t-shirt afternoons.  Nice in Reno too.  Great time to be out on the Truckee River.  Good fall flows also. The Advanced Fly Fishing Clinic has one spot left.  No need for me to do a blog post.  It

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by PYRAMID LAKE STAFF
Striper fishing has been great over the past week with boils being seen throughout the marina, Yellowbar, Bear Trap, and Serano. First few hours of the morning, anglers have been using top water baits and kastmasters to catch stripers during the boils and switch over to baits like chicken liver, sardines, and nightcrawlers to fish deeper in the afternoons. Hot spots from shore for both

Fishing Will Likely Continue to be Great!

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been excellent. Although, fishing did slow slightly during the mid-summer heat. Hobart has been very popular this year which has demanded lighter lines and tippets to catch fish.  Dry fly fishing has been excellent when the wind is calm with small terrestrials and a few callibaetis mayflies in the afternoons.  Small parachute Adams are an excellent choice for matching the callibaetis at Hobart.

Fishing has Been Good this Season and it will Pick-Up

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good this season and it will pick-up with the cooler temps on the way. Recently, burnt orange leech and sheep creek specials slowly retrieved on sinking or sink tip lines have been the best bet.  Fish will likely spend more time in the shallows and on the surface with the season change.  Small terrestrials and midge patterns will likely draw a strike

Fishing Continues to be Excellent on the East Walker.

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing continues to be excellent on the East Walker. It did slow slightly due to extended high temps but will bounce back quickly with fall nearly here. As water temperatures drop, the caddis activity will slow some but still be the bug of choice until the cold really sets in. Nymph fishing has slowed slightly but streamer fishing has gotten better with the recent unstable

Cool Nights are Helping to Improve the Trout Fishing

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Cool nights are helping to improve the trout fishing while the bass bite is still on during the warmest part of the day.  Spin fishermen are finding bass on spinners and small spoons.  Fly fisherman are finding trout in deeper areas of the lake on nymphs and small streamers.  Look for fish on the surface early and late in the day and try just about

Chimney Dam Reservoir Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing is fair to slow for walleye, crappie, wiper and catfish.  A few walleye are being caught slowly trolling minnow imitations or worm harnesses.  Trolling faster with rapala minnow imitations is a good method for walleye as well.  For crappie use bright colored jigs in the flooded vegetation.  The few that fly fish Chimney Reservoir tend to stick with the chartreuse and yellow Clouser minnows.
