Stripers have been biting very well from the shore line, mainly off the rip rap in front of the boat shop and also in the canal by the entrance booth. First few hours in the morning, stripers have been biting a lot of top water baits and kastmasters and also chicken liver or nightcrawlers throughout the day. Today was the ribbon cutting for Nevada’s newest state park, Walker River State Recreation Area. Here Governor Brian Sandoval releases more than 100 brown trout into the pond at Pitchfork. Striper fishing has been great over the past week with boils being seen throughout the marina, Yellowbar, Bear Trap, and Serano. The last week has been good.  Weather is amazing.  Fishing is perfect.  Hardly any boats out.  4 fish right at 10 lb mark last few days!  Best part is there is light at the end of the Summer tunnel.  Im ready for a day off!

Water level is way down.  For boaters, watch those willow bushes on the north end.  They are just visible above the water line.  Make sure to keep an eye on the depth finder as those places you fished a month ago, are at least 10 feet shallower.  Early morning Rapalas or Thomas Buoyants have been producing fish. Flasher and a worm have also been productive.

Summer is gone on the Truckee River, and fall fishing now. Kids are in school, the burners are done, the last party of summer.  Time to get serious with some fall fishing. Temps have finally cooled and we are having highs in the 70’s in Tahoe. I needed this and so did the trouts. Lows have been in the 30’s in the Hirsch, the heater is kicking on in the house in the mornings, fall is near. With the drops in temps its obviously cooled water temps. Good solid fishing on the Truckee River. That’s in the mornings. Still very hot in the afternoons, cool in the mornings, and actually smoke free the last few days. Looks like we may have a cool down this week with highs back in the 80’s. Been hot the last 6 weeks. Reno set a record for consecutive days over 100. It was the hottest July on record
