Western Nevada Fish Reports

The East Carson is in great shape

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
Flows are down to 181 CFS. The water really is clear and still dropping a little each day. Dry dropper set-ups are a popular choice as the flows get even lower over the next couple of months. Baetis, Trico's, Midges, Caddis and Stone flies are all a good bet. Use a Golden Stone or a Hopper pattern for the dry. There is still a little

The Last Hurrah!

by MATT KOLES
That's it, summer's over, the kids go back to school tomorrow, and for most folks this is their last trip of summer. If you did come up to the Truckee-Tahoe area to fish the Truckee River, or just to vacation, thanks, the business and restaurants you visited are my friends and neighbors, and we couldn't live here without you. From the looks of it, a

"Gilligan" on the Truckee with a new camera

by MATT KOLES
Had to go out and break in a new camera today, gonna step it up a bit on the photography front. I'm rock'n a Canon G12, moderately priced, and feels like my old Leica M6 that I had back in the day. Click the link below the main photo to see the other photo. Floated the miracle mile, caught a few mostly on the nymph

The crowds have gone and the fishing is excellent. Kokanee are deeper - in 65 feet of water. Guide Mike Nielsen is going to jig for the kokes. Mackinaw fishing is excellent. Limits of mackinaw in the three to seven pound range. are coming in each day from depths of 170 to 220 feet.  Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593; (530) 546-4444; 530-412-1800

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
The river is running at 600 cfs all the way down. There are caddis hatches in the evenings. Nymphing is good during the day. (530) 587-4844

A Few Browns And A Rainbow on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Some nice fish have been put in the net lately, and things haven't even started yet. Peter landed these nice browns today, and Phil toughed it out with a bad head cold and landed a nice rainbow the other day. Good job Phil, you made the blog. Big stones and small baetis have been my rig of choice. Don't be afraid to fish the middle

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
The Mackinaw bite has picked up, best areas have been Dollar and Sugarpine point. Early bite has been the most productive, trolling dodgers and a live minnow with pro cure scent on it. Fish in 80 to 150 feet of water until the sun peaks the top of the mountain. After that change to 160 to 180 feet of water. Average size has been 2

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Caddis hatches have been prolific in the evening. Otherwise use larvae patterns or big stoneflies (#4 or #6) during the day. Glenshire to stateline has been the best. The stretch through town has small fish. (530) 587-4844

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Water is warm, fishing is slow.

Truckee River Fishing Report 8/25

by MATT KOLES
Fishing hasn't really let up this August on the Truckee River. If you know how to play your cards the fish are willing. I've been fishing both sides of the river, California and Nevada, and catching fish in both states. This time of year, I'll fish some fast water, you'd be surprised who's tucked down deep in a mid river slot. Put the lead on

Flows have stablilized on the Truckee and fishing overall has been fantastic

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
California: The Water master has turned down the flows out of Boca, Donner and Prosser Reservoirs and more water is coming out of Lake Tahoe. Tahoe is the only Reservoir out of the 4 that the water comes off the top. What this means is the water in the Truckee is warmer overall. This enhances the need to fish in the mornings and evenings. Dead Drifting

Flows are perfect and the fishing has been awesome on the East Carson

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The flows on the East Carson River are down to 225 CFS. The flows have not dropped too much over the past week. As they start to stabilize the fishing should only get better. The flows are perfect and the fishing has been awesome. They have stocked the upper section and they have really spread out. Some fish up to 18 inches or better. There

The Truckee River Grand Slam, Rainbow, Cutthroat, Brown, and Whitefish

by MATT KOLES
Robert got the good honors today down on the Nevada side of the Truckee River. Fishing was easy, and we rode the gravy train all day. Sure, some were planters, but we did hook some big wild fish. Nights are cool and the fishing is good. Both states are fishing well, and G.G.S. has miles upon miles of river to fish.

Predictions for the Fall on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
The Truckee River is still fishing well, night's are cool, back down into the 30's-40's again, and we still have a ton of water for this time of year. Things are shaping up nicely for an epic fall. Visions of brown trout are dancing in my head. Book your trip as days are filling up fast. Pick a state, or do the two states one

New Boat Smell

by MATT KOLES
I'm back floating on an Aire raft again, in my opinion the best rafts in the business. Thankfully, I had a few hours yesterday to float the miracle mile section up from my house in Hirschdale. You have to get that new raft smell off, you know, that new smell of new rubber. It's been days since I actually strung up the rods for myself.

Old Clients

by MATT KOLES
It's always great to take out the old clients, the ones you've taken out season after season, especially the ones that can fish. I've taken Bob out for awhile now, gotten to know him a bit. The old boy can tell some good stories, throw a tight loop, all while cracking some jokes at the same time. Good stories, like trying to keep up drinking

Mackinaw and kokanee combo trips have been quite good. Limits are coming in each day. Kokanee are found from the surface to 50 feet from Camp Richardson to Emerald Bay. Most are in the 12-13 inch range. Pautzke’s fire corn helps and lure.  Mackinaw are 120- to 170-feet down and averaging three to seven pounds. Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Fly fishing is quite good below Truckee. Little yellow stoneflies and caddis patterns are quite productive. There are stoneflies during the day. Flows are ideal all the way down to stateline. (530) 587-4844

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
The lake is full and there is a current running through it. Those who anchor and fish deep with bait get a few trout. No limits. (775) 266-3550

Good Times

by MATT KOLES
This time of year we usually get into the dog days of August, you know, warm water temps and sluggish fish, but this year is not typical, and the fishing still feels more like July. The fishing is good, and will remain good for the rest of August on the Truckee River. Stones, caddis, crays, and hoppers are on the menu this month. Great weather,

2 Foot Brown Caught on the Truckee

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
Summer is here and the water conditions are absolutley perfect. Out guides have been really busy over the past few weeks and we have had some exceptional days including numerous days where clients have caught 20 plus fish and last week a 2 foot Brown Trout was caught on the Truckee River. 30 years of guiding experience and more usage permits to take our clients just

The Truckee is really fishing well right now

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The Truckee is in great shape from Lake Tahoe all the way through Reno. For the first time this year the entire river is fishable, Wadeable and in great shape. Now is the time to come to town if you want to fish the Truckee River. California - All of the Reservoirs have been stabilized and the flows coming out of the major tributaries are being

The East Carson is still high and fishing should improve as the water level drops

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
Flows are down to 501 CFS. The East Carson is the closest thing we have to a freestone river in our area. What that means is there is not much control on the flows. Most of the water in the East Carson comes from creeks, springs and natural run off. More of the snowpack is gone now and the East Carson should continue to gradually
