Western Nevada Fish Reports

The Highway 89 section is flowing nice and clear, but reports haven’t come in yet. The flows downstream near Glenshire are high but clear and may offer the best fishing. The river near Hirschdale is high and unsafe to wade. (530) 587-4844

Most of the attention was focused on the lakes south of here. Those who did fish last weekend caught limits on trolled Rapalas in the south end. Nightcrawlers/flashers also produce trout.

Flows on the Truckee are 356cfs near the town of Truckee and 1670cfs below Boca bridge. Nymphing with large Stoneflies and baetis patterns has been working. Look for the fishing to improve with lower water closer to the Tahoe Dam. Recommended Flies: Nymphs: Fox's Poopah olive and tan 16-18, pheasant tails 16-20, Wier's sprinkles 18-20, prince nymphs 14-18, micro mays 18-20, black and olive zebra midges

Flows on the Truckee in Nevada are from 1690-1770cfs depending on what stretch of the river you are on. The river is BLOWN OUT!! It'll fish best when flows are below 500cfs. Currently flows are at 362cfs. The West Carson has been stocked. Opening day Fish were pounded and have been educated! Nymphing was the way to go with Stonefly's and large attractor patterns. These newly planted fish are not looking up for Dries as of yet, but Small black Stoneflies have been hatching. It’s up high but it’s fishable. The section from Trout Creek to Glenshire Bridge should be productive.Fish will be in close. Throw streamers, swing emergers or do indicator fishing. The section from Tahoe City  to Truckee is worth trying.   

This lake has been open since January and fishing well when the wind isn’t whipping. Gusts reached 65 mph earlier in the week but calm is expected Saturday. The southwest side has been fishing best with a good number of trout from 1-1/2 to two pounds being caught on nightcrawlers.

Trollers with nightcrawlers go to the south end and get some limits, some trout close to three pounds. Rate it a bit better than good. The water is cold (38 to 42 degrees) and the runoff is just starting. (775) 266-3550

The further east from town the more access is available. Water clarity is good and flows are 500 cfs through town. Blue wing olives and stone flies produce trout. (530) 587-4844

Traffic is light although spring like weather arrived. Snow is gone. Water temperature is 38 degrees but should rise into the low 40s later this week. (775) 266-3550
