Flows are down to 570 cfs. It is dropping fast. The next few weeks should be really good on the East Carson. The warm weather has pushed water temperatures into the 50's and consequently the spawning fish are in the shallow water as well. Reports this week were much improved. Warm weather this week has caused the run off season to start. The river has been fluctuating with the air temperatures for the last week or so. This pattern could stick around for the nest few weeks. Cooler temperatures in the forecast should slow the runoff somewhat over the next few days. Cold temperatures have slowed the fishing down a bit in the river. Most fish are being taken on a two fly rig comprised of a golden stone nymph (size 8 - 10) and a smaller nymph such as a Stealth P.T., Black Copper John, Mighty May Baetis or a size 12-14 Bottom Roller. Reports from here have varied with the weather. A few bass are being caught so that indicates the water is warming somewhat. Trout will eat a Hinkson Monster Midge or smaller midge imitations such as a zebra midge under an indicator. If you are not catching fish, adjust the depth of your flies below the indicator to fish deeper or shallower.
