Western Nevada Fish Reports

Fishing at Topaz has slowed down. Warm temperatures this time of year concentrate your fishing efforts early and late evening. Boat angler Try trolling in this area. Trollers are using Repala's in brown and silver colors. Also some are catching trolling a Worm Harness. Bank fishermen have been successful using powerbait in orange color. There has been some additional action for Largemouth bass. Bass fisherman

Fly Anglers have reported great fishing lately catching rainbows and tiger trout. Try using zug bugs and sheep creeks. Spooner has been fishing well for bank anglers where areas are clear of weeds. Try getting out into the middle of the lake for more action. Castmasters and Blue Foxes have worked well. Some power bait action has worked in florescent green and rainbow. The regulations were

Hinkson Slough has been picking up lately with good action all day. Midge patterns and wooly buggers have been working. Sheep creek patterns have worked well according to local angler Chuck Hone. There has also been some bass success using spinner baits.

Whiper Bass and White Bass fishing have been excellent almost anywhere in the lake. Beach 6 has been the most productive, but don't limit yourself. Any lure, buzz bait, spinner bait or jig will work. Fort Churchill ponds have been fishing slowly since the warm whether try early in the morning and late evening for the bass. Slow retrieve with rubber baits have been most effective.

Opener was great. Lots of success.

Western Region Game Warden Tyler Turnipseed reports great action at the Pit Taylor area for crappie. A State record of 3 pounds was almost broken over Memorial Day Weekend. Try using chartreuse color crappie jigs Walleye below and above the dam. Try using white crappie jigs white or yellow 1/8 oz.

Boat anglers are generally finding fish 25 feet below the surface and are doing well locating fish and fishing frog or trout colored torpedoes.

Chris and Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): Jeri reported: Chris, our step-daughter and her husband were out last Saturday. They trolled with Apex lures on the east side of the lake. The three of them caught and released 25 Cutthroat, with only one of the fish under 19 inches.

Andy at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store: The Truckee is fishing good for those fishermen who know how to fly fish.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Everyone still catching fish. David White of Rio Vista caught a 3.3 pound rainbow on a nightcrawler, Devon Rackle of San Jose a 3.5 pounder on a Panther/Martin lure and Gene Ward of Crockett a 4-pounder on red Salmon eggs.

Dave Kirby: Fishing strong for some nice fish. Zac Sayed of Minden caught a 3-pound rainbow on a nightcrawler plus some small trout on Saturday.

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): It was windy over the weekend, but the few fishermen out, were catching fish. Nothing big, as the bigger fish seem to have gone deeper to cooler water. There is hardly any water coming into the lake, right now.

Elmer Bull reported: Getting weedy and lots of mosquitoes. The bass fishing is best late, late in the afternoons. Trout fishing is at a dead halt, right now.

Don Hettrick and Don Quilici of Carson City, plus Rich Bachle of Fernley trolled in "The Narrows" last Thursday. They caught and released several hundred small White Bass and one Sacramento Perch. The fish were hitting any lure that looked like a small fish.

Gene St. Denis: Fishing has been good early in the mornings. I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern.

George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: Boats are doing well on the north end or over on the east shore. The shore fishing has been slow unless fishing in deeper water. Nothing super big being caught.

Chris and Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): Jeri: Chris was out on Sunday and they caught and released 15 cutthroat, while trolling Apex lures.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Fishing was spectacular over the weekend. The state and county both stocked 1,000 pounds of rainbows. Bob Angel of Novato caught a 4.5 pound (22-inch) rainbow on a nightcrawler, Devon Rackle of San Jose caught a 3.5 pound rainbow on a Panther/Martin lure and Art Shallock of Novato caught a 3.5 pound rainbow on
