Major changes are proposed for Pyramid Lake

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe is proposing a number of major changes for fishing activities at Pyramid Lake. That large desert lake is located on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Indian Reservation. Among the proposed changes are: Hooks shall be single and barbless. The possession and/or use of downriggers will be prohibited. Trout fishing is prohibited from July 1 through and including Sept. 30 and also from March

East Carson River Report 05-10-2007

Todd Sodaro of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Josh Hughes of Napa caught a 5-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on orange Power Bait on Monday morning. Doug Tollis of Campbell caught a 3-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on green label Salmon eggs.

Topaz Lake Fish Report 05-10-07

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): It was spitting snow and darn cold this last weekend. We had a group of 30 boat fishermen from Modesto and they were out there fishing and catching fish. Their biggest fish was 2-pounds, 8-ounces caught while trolling flasher blades and worms.

Bass fishing has really turned on. Late last Friday afternoon, Mike Zahradka of Yerington caught and released 20 bass in 45 minutes with a Banjo Minnow.

Missy at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): Fabulous fishing with the warmer weather. They are pulling out Walleye, right and left. You don't even need minnows, worms are also working. One fisherman got a 5-pound Walleye off Beach No. 5 on Tuesday.

Fly fishing is starting to taper off some. With nice weather and warmer water tempatures approaching fast, fish are starting to move into deeper water. Walker Lake Fish Report 05-01-2007

Boat anglers are generally finding fish 15 feet below the surface and are doing well locating fish and fishing frog or trout colored torpedoes. Contrary to popular opinion that the lake is dead, the fish and fishing at Walker Lake is still very worthwhile. Most anglers contacted in late December had fish. The cutthroat are robust and worth fishing for.

Washoe Lake dried in 2004 and, although it is presently full and has been restocked, the fish population, consisting mostly of channel catfish and white bass, is small. Fishing is expected to be poor.

Dave Patula, regional game warden, reports fishing was good for both hold over rainbows from last year in the 14-inch range and planters. There was additional action fishing for Small Mouth with top water bass baits.

ruckee river fishing has been slow to good. Fly anglers have been successful using Stone Flies, bead head prince nymphs and hares ears. Fish the bottom bounce. Bait fisherman try bouncing eggs. The flow is 635 cfs as 5/1/07.

Good fishing for Trollers and bank fisherman. Trollers are using Repala's in brown and silver colors. Also some are catching trolling a Worm Harness. Bank fishermen have been successful using powerbait in orange color.

Hobart Reservoir to open for 2007 fishing season
