Western Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee River has been seeing some fair fishing this week. The cooler weather this week has seemed to reduce the number of fish willing to play but has upped the average size with some really nice fish hitting the net this week. The fish have mostly transitioned into slower water at this point and the majority of your focus should be in the seams

The reports from the salty pond have been fantastic this month, with good number of fish already cruising the shorelines. Indicator nymphing with Balanced Leeches and midges has been especially successful, as has stripping Popcorn Beetles, Midnight Cowboys, or Pyramid Minnows. Pyramid Lake remained at full pool, and water temperatures were near the mid-sixties. High winds made for challenging conditions early in the week. Luckily weather conditions improved. Large and smallmouth were located a bit deeper on points and bluff walls. Drop shot, Ned rigs, and grubs in Aaron’s Magic, Orange Crush, and Margarita Mutilator worked for bites. The deep diving crankbait bite should materialize soon.

Sam checked in with us from a trip to Topaz Lake: Made a trip to Topaz on November 8th  and enjoyed success with beautiful, calm weather. We got six fish today on Rapalas (5 rainbow, 1 cutthroat or bow/cutt). Not too sure which, but definitely not a rainbow. Also got to view a pair of bald eagles in a west shore tree. Fun trip.

The Truckee has seen consistent flows here on the California side, with Glenshire Bridge sitting at 150 CFS, and Farad around 450. We have seen a slight change in flows on the Nevada side in both Mogul and Sparks, where flows have come up around 40 CFS. Last week we saw a slight increase in flows along the Glenshire section of the Truckee as Donner Lake begins to get lowered for the winter. Donner Creek is currently adding another 50 CFS to this upper stretch of the river, increasing the flows to around 150 CFS at the Glenshire Bridge. The lake level has been going down about a foot a week, it is down 8 feet from this time last year. NDOW has recently planted the lake with 6400 lbs of trout.
