Truckee River | mid June 2024

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River is below 1,000 CFS through the downtown gauge for the first time this summer! The river temp has climbed a bit due to the water master moving flow from Boca to Tahoe. Boca is a cold bottom release and Tahoe is a warmer surface release. Water temps are topping out at 68 degrees but with a cool down next week we are

Flows on the Truckee River have picked up in certain sections

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions Flows on the Truckee River have picked up in certain sections. In Tahoe City, water has started to be released from Lake Tahoe into the river. Because of this, flows have picked up to around 300 CFS here. As you head towards the town of Truckee, flows pick up even more to around 475 CFS. Though the flows are higher throughout the river, the

Harmful Algae Bloom Watch

by NEVADA STATE PARKS
Lahontan Reservoir, located in Lahontan State Recreation Area, has been placed under a HAB Watch Advisory due to an active Harmful Algae Bloom. A recent water test produced low algal toxin concentrations, and has been backed up by visual indicators and satellite imagery. Current flows vary throughout the different sections right now

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions No complaints about the overall conditions on the Truckee River right now. Current flows vary throughout the different sections right now. Near Tahoe City, the flows on the river are much slower than through the town of Truckee. From 89 south to Truckee, the flows almost double in size. With the longer, warmer days ahead, the trout are becoming very active, partly due to

The lake level is the highest it has been in years

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level is the highest it has been in years. Early morning fishing on the south end where the drop off goes east and west has been successful for anglers with blades and a crawler, or pulling a Rapala right off the bottom. But be careful of the willows that are on top of the shoal. Shore anglers have been using salmon peach or

The river has really come into shape this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Rafting; wet wading; streamers; dry fly fishing; it all seemed to start up this week. The conditions on the main river are currently the best we’ve seen thus far this 2024 season. The flows continue to taper off, while the river is beginning to clear, and the fish are on the chew. We are seeing some excellent quality fish right now, decent numbers and only

The Truckee River has fished increasingly well with water levels dropping

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has fished increasingly well with water levels dropping. The Truckee River at the Reno Gauge is hovering between 1,000-1,200 CFS. This flow provides a good opportunity for fishing and should lead into a fun summer on the river.  Our summer hatches have begun arriving daily. We are seeing some PMD’s during the daytime starting around 10:00 am. Additionally, Yellow Sally Stoneflies and Caddis

Flows are still up on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Not too big, but for a lot of folks, hard to manage. Look for soft water trout can get out of current. Anywhere along the edges. Soft flat bank water. They are not in the middle of the river. Weathers perfect, and there’s fish to be caught. Bugs are coming out too. You can nymph with just about anything right now, and they’ll eat it. Drakes, stones,

The trout are fired up

by PYRAMID FLY CO.

Baitfish are starting to bundle and move in from the depths of their winter refuge, and the Cutties are taking notice. We are fully committed to deep water techniques out of the Water Master boats, and we are

The Truckee saw a significant drop in flows along the entire river system this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee saw a significant drop in flows along the entire river system this week. Looking at the various gauging stations in the local creeks, it appears most of the drop in flows come from the smaller seasonal creeks as opposed to whatever is controlled by dams. This drop from 1,200 CFS to 750 CFS around Glenshire in under a week is a good indicator
