Western Nevada Fish Reports

The lake continues to fish good overall

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Lake continues to fish good overall, but the consistent high-pressure system this last week has made the bite less consistent than the stormy days a few weeks back. We’ve been hearing good reports using both sinking lines with buggers, beetles and boobies, as well as fishing the indo using a dual leech set-up fished at 8-12 feet.  The best policy with bright sunny days

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With Donner Creek pumping in 110 CFS of water, the Glenshire Drive stretch of the river is flowing around 130 CFS and the fish up here are happier. We’ve had good reports of dry fly fishing up in this area, typically coming off mid-day. The bugs present will be both BWO’s and Midges, with the baetis in a size 18-20 and midges in sizes 18-22.

Very little change here as flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt are very low

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Very little change here as flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt are very low and fishing is difficult due to low flows and ice formation. Flows are better below the reservoir and fishing is slow to fair. As of November 18, the South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at approximately 5.03 cfs above the reservoir and6.50 cfs below the reservoir.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Now open all year to fish. The NDOW has planted over 10,000 catchable trout over the last month. The Douglas County day use and baot ramp area is open. The water level has started to rise and the fishing has been fair to good for shore anglers. Boaters have been using black/silver or gold/white Rapalas. Small blades and a half a crawler have also been

Back on Shore and The Fish Are Just as Fired Up

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
As we slid off an amazing October we jumped into November with some amazing shore fishing as we got back on the beaches, digging our boots in the sand full steam ahead! October was downright killer as the bait stayed balled up and the Ginormous Cutts stayed sharking. Mother Nature came through with some calm cool weather the second week and the fish responded like National

Winter conditions on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Cold, cold, cold. It’s Wintertime in Truckee. Ain’t much warmer in Reno either. Teens at night, and just getting into the 40’s during the day. The cold has arrived a little earlier this year. Wintertime tactics for sure. Water temps have crashed. Look for trouts to be holding in the frog water. They may move into some riffle type water mid-day to feed. Mainly, they put

As water temperatures have decreased fish have moved into shallower water

by RENO FLY SHOP
Following the storm system in early November, fly fishing at Pyramid Lake has improved greatly with shore fishing becoming the method of choice for a majority of anglers. As water temperatures have decreased, fish have moved into shallower water and are now targetable from the shoreline. Lahontan Cutthroat Trout feed in slightly deeper water adjacent to the shoreline, so look for depth changes that occur

The Truckee River has also fished well in the past week and has seen a reduction of flows

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has also fished well in the past week and has seen a reduction of flows. As flows have dropped, water has become increasingly clear and Brown Trout have begun to spawn. With the addition of eggs in the river, both rainbow trout and brown trout have been keyed in on egg patterns. Bead fishing is an increasingly popular technique and is an

The shore bite has been surprisingly consistent for this early on in the season

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We’ve seen the best November fishing out here in recent memory. The shore bite has been surprisingly consistent for this early on in the season, and there have already been a number of big fish caught by shore anglers. This is most certainly due to the series of storms in the area causing the water temps to drop earlier this year, and as long as

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River saw flows change along most sections of the river this week with the new precipitation. While the upper section of the river along 89 has all but dried up with no water coming out of Tahoe, the creeks along 89 are providing little-to-no relief until Donner creek, where they are now letting 125 CFS out of the lake. This will make the

Baily Pond will continue to be stocked until winter conditions will no longer allow

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Baily Pond will continue to be stocked until winter conditions will no longer allow. The sunfish have turned off  but trout fishing has been great. The recent wet weather is going to make accessing the pond a little tough, but fishing should be excellent until winter really takes hold. Salmon eggs under a bobber is hard to beat at Baily. Fly fisherman using small peacock

Fishing should stay good until winter really lets us have it

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Shore anglers fishing with chartreuse powerbait and worms off the bottom are still finding some fish around deeper water. Good reports back from boats trolling with flashers in the upper water column with the cold snap. Heavy kastmaster and spoons are good at getting down to lower holding fish until temps fall and fish really come up. Fishing should stay good until winter really lets

A very good start to Winter for November

by MATT KOLES
Winter has set in, with more rain and snow on the way for the Truckee River. A very good start to Winter for November. Good rain and snow last week, and more on the way this week. Looks like we went right into Winter. In Ca, on the Truckee River, water temps have crashed with this cold weather. Look to hit them fish on the head. Fish

The Truckee trout have definitely been on the chew this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee trout have definitely been on the chew this week and they are not shying away from the bigger bugs as long as the presentation is good. We’ve noticed a big change in the water type they’ve been sitting in, and now they are almost exclusively being found in the slow deep runs. With that said, it’s time to put away the euro rod

South Fork of the Humboldt are very low and fishing is difficult except in the pools

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Flows are better below the reservoir and fishing is fair there. As of November 4, the South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at approximately 3.16 cfs above the reservoir and 8.36 cfs below the reservoir.

Buckle up, weathers changing

by MATT KOLES
Buckle up, weathers changing. Gonna get us a good dose of Winter this week on the Truckee River. In fact, the next several weeks, periods of cold and snow are in the forecast. If you streamer fish, good news. If you dry fly fish, good news too. As we head deeper into November, it should be real good, lower on the Truckee River in Nevada, and progressively
