Fly fishing on the Truckee River has improved since the last fishing report as a result of dropping flows. The storms that pounded the region in early January have shifted and made way for sunny days here in the Reno/Tahoe area. As a result, clarity has improved greatly as tributaries to the main river have settled down and cold temps have stopped snow melt.  Most days

Cold on the Truckee River. Pretty much summed up the week. Very cold lows in Truckee, and Reno. Been in the negatives most mornings here in Hirschdale. Just barely warming up to fishable temps. Reno has been much more fishable, especially out East on the lower river. We’ll have a few days of warmth, then cold for the beginning of next week. It should warm back up

The lake has risen about 5- to 8 feet. The California side still has too much snow on the bank to drive down to. I saw where someone had driven down to the shore on the north end and got stuck in the snow and mud. A couple people had parked up on the road and walked down to shore fish. The Douglas County boat

Welp, that was fun. Pretty much 10 weeks of snow. When we get it, we get it. We got pounded. The Truckee River is in great shape, and will be in great shape this summer. Repeated storm systems have these large cutthroat on the chew in a major way!  With the lake levels rising and the low pressure systems barreling in one after another, it has paired up for some feisty fish and a huge section of shoreline available for anglers with about 30 miles of beaches on the west shore of Pyramid Lake.  Head on out to your favorite

The lake held near 88 percent of capacity. Please stay in the main channel after launching or you will run aground. Fishing has been fair overall with trout as the best bet. The lake was stocked last Friday, and anglers did well on a variety of baits. Dough baits, minijigs, and night crawlers performed well, and lures also scored good numbers of fish. Striper fishing

The New Year brings a fresh opportunity to experience Pyramid Lake As we spring into the New year with tremendous amounts of rain and snow the lake levels begin to rise and the fish start sliding into a more "normal", feeding schedule.  We have been catching a lot more summits than normal for this time of year and they are fired up and ready to party! 

I’d say we’re doing pretty good snow wise now. That last storm was no joke. The Truckee River could have hit flood stage, if on Saturday, the rain hadn’t turned to snow.
