Pyramid closes to fishing on July 1st

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
Pyramid closes to fishing on July 1st. There are still a few days left and there have been some really nice fish caught lately. You have to fish in at least 30 feet of water to be successful. Float Tubes, Pontoon Boats and Kayaks are the way to go. Use the fastest sinking line you have with a Balanced Minnow or a Tui Chub pattern

As flows come down expect the fishing to get better!

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
As flows come down expect the fishing to get better! Same as Cali, midges and Caddis are the predominate hatches. Streamer fishing is great right now, white baitfish imitations off the banks are the way to go! There is an awesome Caddis hatch right before dark just west of Reno and should be moving upstream over the next few weeks.   Flows: Town of Truckee 328 CFS,

Good solid fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Good solid fishing on the Truckee River. Mornings to about lunch, is your best time to go out and stick them on the nymph rigs. Evenings, before dark, best time to get them on some dry flys. Not really all that hot out. Mid to low 80’s in Truckee, 90’s in Reno, at the hottest part of the day. This time last year, I was pretty much

Hobart Reservoir in Nevada has fished well in the last week

by RENO FLY SHOP
Many waters have opened up in the high country in the last few weeks. Hobart Reservoir in Nevada has fished well in the last week. The reservoir has come alive with many different insects. Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Tiger Trout all live in the lake and are more than willing to eat a well presented fly. The shallow end of the lake consists of

The Truckee River has fished very well in the last week

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has fished very well in the last week and should continue to do so through the end of June. With runoff in the rearview mirror, true summertime fishing is taking place. As the days have gotten increasingly warm, a number of anticipated hatches have started and provided good dry fly fishing. On the Nevada side of the river, Yellow Sallies have been

This week the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery stocked 6,139 catchable Pilot Peak strain Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe. Pyramid held at 93 percent of capacity

by CHAD BURTON AND CHRIS BORDEN
Pyramid held at 93 percent of capacity, and fishing pressure has been low. Bass anglers reported a good bite on Texas rigged six-inch brown worms, drop shot and Senkos. The bite has been tight to shore out to 25 feet deep. Bigger fish were reported by anglers using creature baits and jigs on main and secondary points. Crankbaits took large and smallmouth in the mornings,

The Truckee has seen some explosive hatches in the last week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has seen some explosive hatches in the last week making for some good shots at fish on dries, albeit inconsistent. The overcast days have initiated multiple Green Drake emergences in the afternoons, and the caddis, yellow sallies and PMD’s have been active throughout the day. We are also quickly coming into hopper season, and even though these bugs may not have the same

Good fishing and cool weather on the Trucker River

by MATT KOLES
Good fishing and cool weather on the Trucker River. The weathers been the big thing. Cool weekends, and mild during the week. Really hasn’t felt much like summer yet, though I know the heats coming. Flow have come down to average/normal. Much easier wading all up and down the river. This week, looks to get back into maybe the low 80’s. Fish the pocket water. You pretty much

We have seen a very good variety of bugs present on the river

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We have seen a very good variety of bugs present on the river and fly selection can at times be overwhelming. With the abundance of options, we recommend using a ‘seine’ when first stepping into the river to see what bugs are most present where you’re fishing. Flipping rocks works as well but it doesn’t necessarily show what’s actually in the drift and the what

South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at 118 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt have dropped as the snow pack recedes. As of June 17, the South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at 118 cfs which is well below the median of 450 cfs for this time of year. Anglers can expect fair fishing above the reservoir with the best fishing being below the dam. Below the dam red copper

Pretty great on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Pretty great on the Truckee River.  Fishing has been on fire for the last few weeks. I don’t say that often. It got a bit hot, but cool and windy and raining today. Should be back in the 70’s next week, perfect. Not too hot yet. Flows are just right, and them caddis started pop’n. Evenings will be very good for dry fly fishing on out. Good

Fast Action on Tahoe Today

by MIKE NIELSEN
We hit our 30 by 8 am.  5:30-6:15 was slow but then it turned on! The boys have plans for the smoker and a stop by Mcduff’s for dinner so the goal was body count and fast!

Truckee River Fishing Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
The conditions on the Truckee River have changed a lot from our last report. Flows have dropped considerably and are holding steady around 600-650 cfs through the downtown gauge. We are seeing some spikes in flows and turbid water, but these are isolated events and the water clears quickly. Fishing seems to be best on the downward side of the graph. As the water recedes

Summer fishing is in full force this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The flows on the Truckee River have stabilized near the average level for this time of year and as we move past our spring runoff we should see water temps continue to rise making the window of good fishing switch more towards the morning hours. This will also be beneficial in terms of being the first angler of the day to run flies through any
