Western Nevada Fish Reports

The lake water level has been going down for awhile, but has started to rise over the last few days. The fishing has been fair for shore anglers. Most have been using powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers. trollers have had best success with flashers and a night crawler going a little deeper water.

Thank you Jacob Strickland for giving us some inspiration to get out fishing this Memorial Day weekend! Take a look at the 22 lb. wiper he caught earlier this month at Lahontan Reservoir. Last week he headed back out fishing and caught another huge wiper(photo 4).

The Truckee River is flowing high right now, especially in the Glenshire area. Anglers should not wade and stay out of the water as best they can due to the higher flows. Streamer fishing is doing well. Anglers streamer fishing should fish the edges of the river in the slower water. Anglers euro nymphing or indicator nymphing should try hares ears, golden stones, san juan

Wiper/White Bass- Wiper and White Bass have been showing up sporadically along the beaches. As the water temperature increase, so will the activity of these fish. Try using white or shiny lures. Catfish- No report Walleye- Walleye have been caught sporadically near the dam and along rocky shorelines Carp- Carp are starting to become active with increased water temperatures.   Few weeks back we boated one of two huge hookups we had mixed in our regular fish.   10.25 lb German Brown. Something we do here in Tahoe is use live bait! Both trolled and drifted and the Redsides, Chubs and Suckers can be downright deadly. We have had tremendous success drifting and bridling trolled chubs!

Looks like snow melt on the Truckee River is pretty close to being done for the year. Expect water clarity to improve in the coming weeks.
