The smoke has cleared. Thankfully South Lake was spared from the Calder Fire. Man that was close. Clean air and great weather now. Flows on the Truckee River aren’t great, but they’re not horrible either. You can look at the glass half empty, or half full. 200 cfs ain’t too shabby right here in the Hirsch. I’ve seen many a falls when the water has been much lower.

That’s the Truckee River in the nutshell, at least on the Nevada side. With low water levels, low flow, and roller coaster temps that are running from 62 in the morning up to 74 in the afternoon its probably best to just leave the trout alone. A couple changes on the Truckee River. Weather is cooler, and flows have dropped. Truckee didn’t get out of the 60’s the other day. Flows are down to around 300 cfs here in the Hirsch. The fishing has been slow. The anglers that have started at first light have had the most success with trolling deep with flashers or Rapalas. reminder that the lake will not close to fishing this year. We have plenty of time when the weather gets cooler to camp and fish.
