The weather has been such a roller coaster ride this spring. Today near freezing after last 4 days of heavy wind. One week we have snow and wind then next record highs 80-86 then followed by more wind then cold.   I’m ready for some stability in weather.   Good news is we’re finding biters each day.

With the flows slowly coming down and the water temperatures increasing, fishing conditions on the Truckee River are improving. Anglers are seeing some sporadic caddis hatches throughout the day, but these could become more prominent in the evenings over the course of this upcoming week. As we slide into the last month of the season at the lake we begin prepping for the next. Roll with the changes and adjust. We stay excited. Let’s go!!!

The Truckee River is flowing at 550-600 CFS through the downtown gauge. Temperatures look perfect as we start the day around 53 degrees and the river is topping out at 61 degrees. The river is full of cutthroat trout that have been stocked over the past few weeks. The wild trout will usually move into more secluded waters as the high influx of trout compete

The lake water level has been going down for awhile, but has started to rise over the last few days. The fishing has been fair for shore anglers. Most have been using powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers. trollers have had best success with flashers and a night crawler going a little deeper water.

Thank you Jacob Strickland for giving us some inspiration to get out fishing this Memorial Day weekend! Take a look at the 22 lb. wiper he caught earlier this month at Lahontan Reservoir. Last week he headed back out fishing and caught another huge wiper(photo 4).

The Truckee River is flowing high right now, especially in the Glenshire area. Anglers should not wade and stay out of the water as best they can due to the higher flows. Streamer fishing is doing well. Anglers streamer fishing should fish the edges of the river in the slower water. Anglers euro nymphing or indicator nymphing should try hares ears, golden stones, san juan

Wiper/White Bass- Wiper and White Bass have been showing up sporadically along the beaches. As the water temperature increase, so will the activity of these fish. Try using white or shiny lures. Catfish- No report Walleye- Walleye have been caught sporadically near the dam and along rocky shorelines Carp- Carp are starting to become active with increased water temperatures. Try using corn or worms. Crappie- No report Monthly Water Temperature:

  Few weeks back we boated one of two huge hookups we had mixed in our regular fish.   10.25 lb German Brown. Something we do here in Tahoe is use live bait! Both trolled and drifted and the Redsides, Chubs and Suckers can be downright deadly. We have had tremendous success drifting and bridling trolled chubs!
