Western Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee Has Been Fishing Well

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has been fishing well! We are really seeing fish activity pick up as the days get longer and water temperatures begin to rise between winter storms. Nymphing the slow to medium/slow water with indicators or with ESN techniques have all been effective. Fly selection is still small #16-#20, but we are catching fish on many different patterns in that size range.  Finally, passing

Topaz Lake Report

by TOPAZ LODGE STAFF
We checked in with Topaz Lake today. Things have been pretty slow on the lake, with shoreline anglers doing okay with Powerbait and worms, with some boat traffic on the lake as well. There has been some talk of a 9 & 10 lb. Rainbow being caught but no photos of them yet.

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
The recent storm cycle has really improved fishing at the lake. Seems as if the combination of wind and precip has been able to raise the water temps a few degrees and encourage the fish to move into the shallows with some more regularity. The approach can vary, stripping or indicator, daily so be prepared with both rigs. A couple tips to think about: When fishing a

The River Has Benefited From Recent Storms

by RENO FLY SHOP
The river has also benefitted from recent storms. Cloud cover and some natural runoff have created great conditions. Focus on the cloudy days when you can and mid day has been fishing the best with the most bug activity. We have been finding most of our fish using small dark nymphs and egg patterns. The Baetis are still showing up mid day and the fish are

Big Snows!

by MATT KOLES
Big snows. Not the biggest I’ve seen, but a good old fashioned Sierra snowstorm. We went from about 40% ytd, snowpack, to about 80% ytd, snowpack. It doubled in about 5 days. Another decent storm on tap for this week too. Winter ain’t over yet, maybe it’s just starting. Probably be one of those Winters when it’s still cold and snowing in May. Thats when you

Water Level is Low

by DOUG BUSEY
Open all year to fishing. The water level is very low. Best area to try would be above the broken dam with a small spinner or salmon eggs.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has been slow. But many anglers are getting limits with a full day of fishing. Trollers have been using flashers and a half a night crawler. Raplas have been productive in a blk/gld or a perch pattern. I recommend changing up your colors when one is not producing. I use a snap (without a swivel) on the end of my line to make

The Lake Has Been Fishing Well for Mid Winter

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
The lake has been fishing really well for mid-Winter/January. The water temperatures are at their winter lows around 42-43 degrees. This usually means, low fish totals and the occasional cruiser with plenty of days when you wonder if there are any fish in the lake at all. Pyramid will always kick out big fish no matter the season with the Pilot Peak strain of Lahontan

Truckee is Fishing Well For January

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
The Truckee is fishing really well for January. As usual, the Nevada side is easily the best. The flows are low due to the lack of storms and snowpack, but the river is in great shape. There is no anchor ice and access is great. You have to approach the river a little different than in the summer and fish are going to be in

Fishing on The Nevada Side Has Been Really Good Lately

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
Fishing on the Nevada side of the East Walker has been really good lately. The warmer weather we have had has freed the river from any anchor ice and access is great. Fish are active and happy. The water is really low at 20 CFS and is the only downside to fishing right now. The flows have remained at this level for weeks now and
