Western Nevada Fish Reports

Had blast yesterday. It started slower than it had previously but got hot and at the end came up with 3 species. Macks , bows and this year I have caught more 1-3 lb mountain whitefish than I have in years. Since my childhood!

Truckee River  The Truckee River is flowing around 370cfs through the downtown gauge. Through Sparks (downstream of Reno) water temps are creeping up in the late afternoons, rising above 70F degrees around 1 pm. Temps above 70F can be stressful on trout when they are hooked and fought. We suggest giving them a break in mid afternoon in areas of the river that are above 70. Don’t

Good fishing happening in the mornings on the Truckee River.  We’ve had a bit of a break from the oppressive afternoon heat of the last few weeks. Team Tobias one my favorite annual groups got it done again today on Lake Trout. They have the knack! Fish were lil smaller class today but we got plenty with full limits and throw backs! No rainbows today after we Mack fished !

Not much change since last week on the Truckee River. Super f’ing hot in the afternoons, nice in the morning. Get your fishing in before noon. Flows are perfect and haven’t changed since last week. Fish the fast slotted water. Repeat until about September. If you fish the Nevada side of the Truckee River, carry a thermometer and check the water temps around noon. That water gets

Another awesome day. They finished up keeping limits and I got one for me tonight. Wee released more than we kept and some were nicer than few the keepers. Fishing is very consistent currently!

We had them snackin fast and furious and kept 9 and released another dozen. Fish were smaller today but action was plentiful! Smoke rolled in from the Hog fire in Susanville!

The Truckee River isn’t seeing a lot of dry fly activity until later in the evening, so anglers should switch to mostly caddis nymphing in the morning and mid day. It’s summer on the Truckee River. Good and hot in the afternoons, nice in the mornings. Flows could not be better, and the fishing is good all up and down the river.
