Today’s take. Released a few. Lost a few. Perfect morning and off water by 11 am

Yesterday the fish social distanced for me. We got Brown only to have one of three decked. Then the lakers did the same not nearly the amount of bites and lots of loss.  Crazy to water Temps go from 64 down to 56 degrees but 3 days of big wind / waves seemed to stir things pretty good. Well last two days have been solid 20-40 mph wind out of the west. You can slide in close to mountains stay out if waves but you eat the wind anyway, today was a gentle 15 -20 evil East that just makes 3-4 foot uneven random waves and chop. Poor guy in middle gave up his breakfast 3 times and it was fight keeping things

Rolling right along on the Truckee River.  Hooking pretty good numbers of fish every morning. That is, if you can wade and get around in the river. Trouts are in the fast oxygenated water. You have to get in there and get to them. You have to cover water and understand where exactly to put your flies. Get out in the mornings, that is your best

Truckee River  Flows on the Truckee River are hovering around 700 cfs at the Reno gauge. Fishing has been really good throughout the day! Fish are moving into fast water by late morning and are eating well until early afternoon. There is a little lull in fishing mid day with a chance for dry fly fishing in the last few hours of light. The Truckee River is fishing great right now. The best time to see hatches is in the mornings and evenings. In the mornings, anglers should be nymphing with pale morning duns, caddis, and various streamers. If anglers are streamer fishing, try using a light sink tip. In the evening, anglers have been seeing good dry fly activity. Some flies to try in the evening are

Hot. The heat finally came. 95 in the Hirsch yesterday. That’s warm. Good news is it’s nice and cool in the mornings on the Truckee River. You’ll have your best fishing morning, and again very late in evenings. The fishing has been good. Flows are still kinda up.
