Western Nevada Fish Reports

Good Times at the Elbow

by CHAD WOODS
Today, I took the kids on our weekly journey to maximize our social distancing from the rest of the World.   We had a good time checking out the great outdoors in Northern Nevada.   We did spend some time fishing and caught one Brown Trout and two Rainbows.  All the fish were caught on the mini sinking Rapala.

Truckee River Fishing Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
Truckee River  Seems as if Spring runoff has started as we prepare this report. The river shot up the last few days and overnight lows upstream are staying above freezing. A cooling trend is forecast the next few days, however, once the free flowing tributaries start their melt it seems unlikely they will freeze back up. So…. Let’s get ready to fish higher flows the next week or

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Hope everyone is staying healthy. Yes, the Truckee River is open. Nevada County has no fishing closures. The Truckee River is open in Nevada as well.  There are fishing closures in some counties in Ca. This weekend is the traditional trout season opener in California. Every section of the Truckee River is open now. I’m not saying run up here and go fishing, though it seems everyone is

Truckee – April 8th Fishing Report

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
TRUCKEE RIVER: Tahoe City 201 cfs, Glenshire 291 cfs, Boca Confluence 566, Farad Exit 603 Currently the Truckee is fishing very well, with the water running low, clear and cold. As usual, the most consistent fishing will be under the indicator. Dry fly fishing will be an option, however, and the Skwala stones are starting to show which provides a high protein meal that is hard

River is in Great Shape

by MATT KOLES
Crazy times. Gonna chill a bit on the reports, but I do live on the river, and this is my home. Of course, I am fishing. Not much else to do. Good news is that winter finally came. Bad for the kids because they want to get out and ride their scooters. The weathers been cutting into their scooter and big wheel time. It’s been cold and

Flows Have Increased Nearly Three Fold

by RENO FLY SHOP
The flow of the Truckee River has increased nearly three fold from our last report. The Downtown Reno gauge is sitting at 660 cfs at the time of this report. We saw the river turn to chocolate milk for a few days after the initial push of water but it has cleared to good clarity and continues to get better, and fishing well! You may

Pyramid Fly Co. Report

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Where else in the world would you want to be right now other than in the middle of nowhere surrounded by big mountains painted in brilliant reds and oranges, being accompanied by nothing other than a few fishermen escaping this zombie plague chasing the world’s largest cutthroat trout ? With the lack of chaos and the abundance of trout that question is easily answered by all

Next Few Weeks Look Promising

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
It got a little silly this afternoon. My net arm started cramping from too many left handed curls sliding these in the @rising3474 mega net. The next few weeks looks promising with all the incoming weather. A few openings this month still. Feel free to bug us to come hunt these monster cutthroat.

Primetime Just Around The Corner

by THE TROUT FITTER STAFF
Flow Rates and Water Conditions: The water has been gin clear here, and is in perfect shape for the action packed spring season. Temps have risen a couple of degrees in the last two weeks due to the warming conditions. Fishing Conditions and Hatches: The fly fishing has really started to pick up the last two weeks for large fish from 10-20lbs. Indicating and stripping have been equally

Nice Hen in The Net

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Keeping kids entertained while fishing doesn’t always mean there will be a fishing rod in their hands. Lula kicked ass on the water up until the afternoon. After that is was running around the tufas like a jungle gym while @momothemeatman tried to keep up. So at the end of the day after we slid a nice hen into the net she wanted to see

MARCH PRIME TIME

by PYRAMID LAKE GUIDES
We are in the height of peak season on Pyramid! The fishing is great, even on bluebird days. Greg and Andy were able to hit a storm last weekend and reel in over 80 fish in just 3 days, including some Big Boys in the teens! We’ve had some dates open up in March so if you’ve been looking now is the time! Early April

Coming Into The Spring on The Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Coming into Spring on the Truckee River. It’s already about mid-March, and from now into Summer is the time to be on this river. Spring is my favorite time for big fish. Finally, a change on the river. Flows have been bumped up out of Boca. The river is about 480 cfs here in the Hirsch. Near the same down the length of the river as well

New State Record For Carp Has Been Broken!

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
A new state record for carp has been broken! Brenden Burnham caught this 35 pound, 3 ounce carp at Virginia Lake in Reno yesterday. The previous state record was 34 pounds 10 ounces. This is very exciting for us and for Brenden, who has caught and entered 46 carp trophy fish over 15 pounds in 2019. Congratulations Brenden! Buy your fishing license today at ndowlicensing.com

Pyramid Lake is Looking Better

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid lake is looking better with some clouds and wind in the forecast. Bluebird days have been difficult. I’m finding myself dropping my tippet size for the indicator to help fish feel more comfortable and willing to bite. I’ve been fishing 8lb test and focusing on deeper drop offs. The LCT have been more comfortable in water deeper than 12 feet. They’re not always holding

Water Temps Have Gotten The Fish Active!

by RENO FLY SHOP
Warmer temperatures in our region have really gotten these fish active! Were catching multiple big trout on most half day trips. Fish are really keying in on size 16 nymphs. Color has not seemed to matter too much, but something with some flash has been better than more natural presentations. Water levels are at the lowest they will be this year. This is producing extremely

Bug Slingers

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Al Ritt @arflies the legendary fly tying master has to be one of the kindest most humble bad asses we have had the pleasure of fishing and hanging out with. He and his wild group of bug slingers came out and fished with us for a few days. Al Z finished the trip out with a tail walking backing getter that put on a real
