Cave Lake Fishing Report

Cave Lake: For the first time in nearly 6 years, Cave Lake is at capacity and spilling. Water levels reached normal pool on 3/14/25. To date, 7,895 rainbow trout averaging 10.6 inches have been stocked this spring.  Water temperatures are sitting around 540F. Anglers should expect to catch hatchery stocked trout, but there is also a chance to catch trout carried over from previous years.

The road to Wilson is clear and completely dry and the lake is full. There is opportunity for open water fishing from the shorelines. With the precipitation forecasted for this weekend, expect the road and shorelines to be a bit muddy. PowerBait and worms or small flashy spinners should work for spin anglers, while small nymph, midge and leech patterns should work for fly anglers.

Ice is continuing to recede but the lake is not completely open yet. The shorelines are soft and muddy. Do not attempt to access remaining ice during the thaw. The boat dock has not been put in yet. State Park staff has opened the main boat ramp for the season. Water temperatures are sitting in the low 40s. Water levels reached normal pool on 3/14/25.  With recent storms, shoreline access will be muddy until the snow melts and everything begins to dry out.  Anglers can expect to catch hatchery-reared rainbow trout stocked into Cave Creek in June 2024 that ended up in Cave Lake as the water levels
