After measuring for ice thinkness, we are currently at a minimum of approximately 6.5” of ice on Wild Horse reservoir when entering from the Wild Horse SRA boat ramp. With this thickness, it should be safe to begin ice fishing! As always, please exercise caution when out fishing on the ice. We do not recommend driving across or on it.

Flows are better below the reservoir and fishing is slow to fair

Very little change here as flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt are very low and fishing is difficult due to low flows and ice formation. Flows are better below the reservoir and fishing is slow to fair. As of December 2, the South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at approximately 5.24 cfs above the reservoir and 8.1 cfs below the reservoir.

Access to the Bruneau is now through Grasmere in Idaho

Access to the Bruneau is now through Grasmere in Idaho. Flows are low with the reporting station showing ice. There is lots of snow and ice. Expect fishing to be poor. There will be no more fishing reports until next spring on this water.

Jake Creek is ice covered with two to four inches of ice

Jake Creek is ice covered with two to four inches of ice depending upon where on the reservoir you are. Give this lake another week or two before venturing on the ice. Once the ice is safe, expect good fishing for 10 to 14 inch trout this winter.
