by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With cooler weather settling in, action along the river is heating up. Anglers are catching limits of striped bass along the shoreline. Trout-pattern lures, especially jerkbaits, are proving highly effective and drawing aggressive strikes from the fish. For those who prefer natural bait, frozen anchovies remain a dependable option. Near Laughlin Lagoon, anglers are experimenting with a mix of hard and soft plastics to entice smallmouth

Stripers are active around dawn and dusk

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Stripers are active around dawn and dusk, providing anglers with lively action during the cooler hours of the day. Hard plastics in shad patterns are the lure of choice, often drawing strikes when thrown to a boil. While black bass fishing remains slow, persistent anglers have found some success around Las Vegas Bay using topwater poppers and Chatterbaits. For those targeting catfish and carp, Hemenway

2.42 lb. Gizzard Shad

by RUSTY
It's not quite a record, but it’s definitely a nice catch! Our local angler, Christian Duncan, landed a 2.42-pound, 20-inch gizzard shad in the Laughlin Bay area. Typically used as bait until they grow beyond bite size, gizzard shad are abundant in our waters. Fly fishing for these fish is becoming increasingly popular, with anglers often targeting them in specific areas. Chris, however, caught this

Stay tuned for more details as the event approaches. In the meantime, here’s some exciting

I am getting reports of the local striper bite in our area. The stripers are hitting mostly anchovies along the shores of the Colorado River, below the Davis Dam. Our local angler, Russel Mynk, and visiting angler, Mason Rieth, landed some nice stripers using anchovies while fishing from shore. Our parks are great fishing spots to catch a few of these stripers. Rotary Park, Community Park,

Local anglers Nolan and Marcy Chefalo recently had a successful outing in the Big Bend area. They were fishing from the shore of the Colorado River on the Nevada side using anchovies. Just a reminder: your Arizona fishing license allows you to fish on both sides of the Colorado River. What's even better is that they were using light tackle—Barbie poles, in fact—and still managed to

BOR begins cold water flows to disrupt spawning of nonnative smallmouth bass below Glen Canyon Dam

by ARIZONA GAME & FISH DEPARTMENT
As a result of warmer Colorado River temperatures, the Bureau of Reclamation announced in early July it would begin releasing deeper, and therefore, colder water starting July 9 from Lake Powell through Glen Canyon Dam. The purpose is to disrupt the establishment of smallmouth bass, which could negatively affect populations of threatened humpback chub below the dam.  The need for these flows was triggered after the

Great news from Lake Mohave! Our local angler Mike Jones and his grandson Kaleb Williams from Atlanta, Georgia, were trolling an AC plug and landed a nice-sized striper. The striper weighed 8.74 pounds and measured 29.14 inches. The lake is doing well, and anglers are catching stripers in the coves near the power lines and along the rock area near Davis Dam.
