Anglers are bringing in rainbow trout below Willow Beach. The fish are taking PowerBait, worms, and Rooster Tails. Panther Martin spinners, Super Dupers and Li’L Jakes can also be productive. Black bass action is good. The fish are hitting on green and watermelon plastics fished on a drop-shot. Anglers are also catching striped bass while trolling shad- and trout-pattern swimbaits outside of Hemenway Harbor. Others are chasing crappies in the Overton Arm. Jigs are fooling the fish. As I have been saying we have some big fish out here in our local water way. This fish was landed below the Davis Dam on the Colorado river from shore. Our angler from the Laughlin Nevada side of the Colorado River Austin Dwiers landed this nice 41-inch Striper. He was fishing from shore in the Big Bend area using anchovies. This fish weighed in

Striper action is still intense below Davis Dam with 2- to 5-pound stripers taking anchovy chunks and trout swimbaits. Anglers are catching catfish and stripers from shore using anchovies fished off the bottom below Big Bend State Recreation Area. Trout are taking PowerBait and night crawlers.

Night crawlers and PowerBait below a bobber or off the bottom with a small weight will work to bring trout in. Chartreuse, marabou jigs work great for crappie. Shore anglers are catching rainbow trout following recent fish plants. Spinners with flashes of gold, blue or red colorations work well along the river. Other productive baits include night crawlers and PowerBait. For striped bass try swimbaits, crankbaits and live bait. Black bass should be in pre-spawn mode and active near Laughlin Lagoon and other backwater areas.

Look for stocked rainbows in the shadows and moving toward deep water where temperatures are coolest. The ponds at Veteran’s Memorial and Floyd Lamb parks are the most recently stocked waters. This is some great news we are getting a few stripers showing up. Our local anglers Leroy Morin Jr. and Tara Bond were fishing from shore at our Rotary Park.
