Swimbaits and Glide Baits in trout patterns are producing striped bass catches along the river. One lucky angler landed a 17-pound striper below Big Bend State Recreation Area using his favorite swimbait. Rainbow trout are most active in the mornings and afternoons. The fish are looking for pink and orange PowerBait, mice tails, or worms fished in the shadows.

Double-digit stripers are hitting jointed trout swimbaits, anchovies, and Sassy Shads. Shore anglers and boaters report the most action after sunset or before sunrise. Stocked rainbow trout are hitting various baits, lures, and flies. Mealworms, night crawlers, and rainbow PowerBait are fooling the fish. Rooster Tails and other spinners attract trout and a few bass in the afternoons. Fly anglers are catching trout with flies such as Hare’s Ear and Prince Nymphs

Anglers are catching striped bass  near the Hemenway Fishing Pier

Anglers are catching striped bass with anchovies and live shad near the Hemenway Fishing Pier. They are finding better fishing early in the morning and overnight rather than during the daytime. Boaters are having luck when trolling shad lures 40 feet down. Black bass action is picking up around Callville Bay. Anglers are using bone-colored swimbaits and walking baits.

Rainbow trout up to 4 pounds are hitting jointed swimbaits just offshore at Willow Beach. Smaller fish are taking combinations of PowerBait and mice tails. Lake Mohave anglers are trolling for striped bass at the south end. Fish close to 10 pounds have been caught on shad swimbaits.

Anglers are finding good fishing for rainbow trout following recent fish plants

Anglers are finding good fishing for rainbow trout following recent fish plants. The fish have been taking a variety of worms, bright-colored Rooster Tails, and rainbow-colored PowerBait. Cold mornings have slowed catfish and bass fishing. The limit is three fish regardless of species. Check the regulations before heading out and please use the recycle bins at the ponds for unwanted fishing line and tackle.

Black bass action is steadily improving in pockets all over the reservoir. Ned rigs with green pumpkin worms and Rat-L-Traps are popular choices. Crappies are hitting hard plastics in the early morning in the shallows throughout the Overton Arm. Striped bass are cruising deeper water. Try jigging shad lures in at least 40 feet of water.

It seems only our most hardy anglers are out throwing out a line. We are getting rainbow trout from the Willow Beach Hatchery, and we have been getting some striper activity. Most of the striper action has been along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam. Up on Lake Mohave the wind keeps most boaters at bay. While our shoreline has plenty of opportunity

Willow Beach anglers are fishing south of the marina to avoid increasingly weedy shoreline areas. Double-digit stripers are taking jointed swimbaits along drop-offs. Soft shad swimbaits are getting the attention of stripers near the dam. Glide baits and topwater lures are tempting black bass in about 10 feet of water in coves.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked rainbow trout in Beatty Pond and in the ponds at Veteran’s Memorial, Sunset, Lorenzi, and Floyd Lamb Parks last week. The fish have been biting on PowerBait, mealworms, and night crawlers, as well as small spinning lures and spoons.

Boaters are having luck with stripers up to 4 pounds in the Boulder Basin. Some are trolling soft swimbaits, and others are jigging in around 40 feet of water. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are hitting watermelon-colored worms and green pumpkin jigs. Crappie anglers are experimenting with tube jigs and swimbaits in the Overton Arm.
