Striper anglers are reporting increased boil activity

Striper anglers are reporting increased boil activity near Hoover Dam and Kingman Wash. Anchovies and live bait have been more productive than lures for shore anglers. Boaters that are unable to find boils are having luck trolling in open water. Largemouth bass are quick to hit buzzbaits and Rat-L-Traps, while smallies show a preference for bright-colored crankbaits.

The fishing area that is used  by our young anglers in the shore line along the Colorado River below the Davis Dam. Aquatic vegetation is thick along the shoreline, making it tough to cast from shore. However, trout are biting worms below a water bobber. Dark-colored plastics and emergers have enticed bass. Anglers have had the best action fishing from boats, float tubes, or kayaks in the mornings.

Rainbow trout are hitting rainbow-colored PowerBait, and night crawlers fished off the dock and from shore in the mornings. Weeds are coming up across the lake, making shore fishing challenging without weedless hooks. Bass action is still good. Anglers are having success with bright-colored jigs and spinners.

Patient anglers are catching some hogs. Crappie action is slow on days with temperatures in the 90s. Weeds are getting thicker along the shoreline, and the water is gradually dropping.

The best striped bass bite is being reported around Big Bend State Recreation Area. Most fish are averaging 1-2 pounds, but many anglers are reaching their 10-fish limit. Anchovies and spinnerbaits are popular choices. For catfish, try fishing anchovies or chicken liver in marshy areas.

Anglers using night crawlers are finding rainbow trout in the shadows from the Willow Beach fishing pier to the shallow coves south of the marina. Kayakers are reporting success with striped bass at the south end of Lake Mohave. Shad swimbaits and anchovies are producing fish at dawn and dusk. Boaters are catching black bass up to 4 pounds on soft plastics in the coves.

Haymeadow and Cold Springs have been very good for bass, fair for crappie, and hit or miss for trout. With waters shallow and temperatures hot, early morning hours are the best time for fishing. Vegetation is taking over the shallows. Using weedless hooks and small barbless flies helps minimize plant hookups. Adams-McGill is producing a few nice trout on Rooster Tails and bass on plastics.

Anglers are finding the best time to fish is right after sunrise. Bluegill are providing good action at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, and Sunset parks. Lorenzi also has green sunfish swimming in the shallows. These fish are small with small mouths, so hooks no larger than #10 and mealworms are recommended. Bright-colored poppers and spinnerbaits are bringing in bass.

Most fish are weighing in between 2 and 5 pounds, but a few lucky anglers have landed fish in the double digits.
