Trout and Bass are Hitting Well on a Variety of Lures

With overnight temperatures cooling significantly, the aquatic vegetation along the shorelines should start to back off soon.  Trout and bass are hitting well on a variety of lures, flies and PowerBait in rainbow, orange or green colorations.  The fish are also taking night crawlers.  

The Trout Bite has Been Improving

 The bass and crappie action has showed signs of slowing down this past week, but jigs and small spinning lures are still producing some bites in the mornings.  The trout bite has been improving as overnight temperatures continue to cool.  The fish are taking spinners, spoons and flies, along with PowerBait in rainbow sparkle or the usual green or orange colorations.

Catfish are Biting in the Marshy Areas

Fishing has been slow in the casino area, but the action does pick up when a school of stripers comes through the area. The area around Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area has been producing stripers in the 4- and 8-pound range. The fish are taking anchovies. Catfish are biting in the marshy area below Big Bend area.

National Public Lands Day is Sept. 22

Striped Bass are Being Caught Near Willow Beach

Catfish have been hanging out in the backs of coves and anglers are finding the best action for these fish at night.  Anglers are using light colored spinners for black bass but have brought in catfish on them as well.  The largemouth bass bite has been slow.  Striped bass are being caught near Willow Beach or in coves.  Most of the action is taking place

Fishing has Been Good for Bluegill, Bass, and Catfish

 Fishing has been good for bluegill, bass, and catfish.  The best action continues to be early in the morning and after sunset. Fish on the bottom with hot dog slices, night crawlers or stink bait for catfish. For bluegill try small fly patterns, mealworms or small red worms. The next catfish plant is scheduled the last week of September.    

Better Success Jigging in Deeper Water

 With temperatures holding in the 100-degree range, anglers targeting striped bass have had better success jigging in deeper water.  Despite the abundance of live bait, fish are hitting mostly on artificial lures.  Sunrise continues to be the best time to hit the water.  Black bass species are hitting occasionally on shad but are primarily taking lures in about 45-60 feet of water

Registration is open for Fly Tying Tuesday on Sept. 18 at the NDOW office located at 4747 Vegas Drive.  The class will begin at 6 p.m. This is a free class for beginners through more advanced fly tiers, and all equipment and materials will be provided. Trout Growing Increasingly Active

Reports from anglers have been good this week.  One angler estimated that he caught and released as many as 60 small to medium-sized Largemouth Bass in just a few hours.  He was fishing the upper end of Adams-McGill from a kayak.  While daytime temperatures remain warm, overnight temperatures are beginning to drop.  That has trout growing increasingly active, especially in the morning hours.

Fishing action has been good for trout and bass, but the crappie bite has slowed.  Trout are taking PowerBait in rainbow, orange, or green colorations, as well as night crawlers.

 The trout bite is starting to pick up with the dropping nighttime temperatures.  The fish have been most active in the morning hours and after sunset.  They are taking PowerBait in rainbow-sparkle, and also orange or green.

Laughlin Fishing Report!

Striped bass and catfish are taking baits above Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area and through Casino Row.  Stripers averaging between 1 and 3 pounds are mainly taking anchovies fished from boats and the shoreline.  Some local anglers are recommending bait saver thread for keeping cut anchovies on your hook.  Trout stocking below the dam should resume sometime in September.  

Lake Mohave Fishing Report

Catfish action has been good at the south end of the reservoir.  The fish are taking worms and anchovies fished off the bottom.  Striped Bass are biting jointed swimbaits.  Fishing is slow for black bass, but the bluegill bite is good.  Trout are biting on worms and spinners out of Willow Beach.

Fishing for Bluegill and Green Sunfish remains good in most of the urban ponds.  Catfish action has been good following the August plant.  The fish are taking night crawlers, hot dog slices or chicken gizzards.

Anglers enjoyed good fishing over the holiday weekend.  Stripers are taking lures and jigs, while rattle baits and buzzbaits in silver patterns are getting the bites from bass.  Sunset remains the most productive part of the fishing day, but night fishing can be very good, especially under a light.  Spinnerbaits and plastics are catching black bass in the Boulder Basin and the Overton Arm.  The

Catfish Bite is Doing Ok!

Up on Lake Mohave the catfish bite is doing ok so shows Kris Moore with a nice 5.2 pound channel at 22 inches.  He was bait fishing from his boat near the dam. New Areas Just opened!

 The upper areas of Adams-McGill, Cold Springs, Haymeadow, and Dacey all opened up this week to fishing as did Tule Reservoir.  Anglers fishing the upper end of Adams-McGill have found good fishing for bass, crappie and rainbow trout.

With early morning temperatures cooling down into the 50’s, trout fishing is good until around noon. The bass action remains very good with most anglers limiting out by jigging rubber worms or throwing lures.

Though the aquatic vegetation continues to be a problem for shore anglers, the few open spots have been producing good action for trout and bass. Trout are most active in the morning hours before the day heats up. The fish are taking PowerBait in orange or green colorations.

Fishing has been hot for striped bass below the dam, but catfish are not to be forgotten. Catfish can be found cruising the shallows, and anchovies are a popular bait of choice. They also will catch striped bass as well. Rusty, at Riviera Marina, reports that Justin Smith reeled in an 18-pound striper from the marshy area near Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation

Black Bass are Active!

Some anglers are reporting slow fishing while others are getting their share of smallmouth and largemouth bass.  Black bass are active near the mouths of coves and along rock faces, and are taking spinner baits, soft plastics fished on a drop shot and jigs.  Stripers are hit or miss, but anglers are finding some response early in the morning using various swimbaits or anchovies out

 Bluegill and Green Sunfish continue to bite well on mealworms and small chunks of night crawlers. If conditions remain favorable, the Nevada Department of Wildlife plans to stock catfish in the ponds at Floyd Lamb, Sunset, Lorenzi, Veterans Memorial, and Hafen parks.

Reports remain consistent from throughout the lake. Catfish are hitting on anchovies, chicken liver or shrimp.  Working the backs of coves at night has produced the best results.  Anglers are seeing lots of shad in coves during the early morning hours.  The best striper fishing has been starting at first light.  Anglers are using cut anchovies, swimbaits or lures, such as a Spinnow or Jumpin’
