Nevada Fish Reports

            The extended stable conditions on the Truckee over the last few weeks has made for good flows, clear water and steadily rising water temps. The fishing has been really good and if you were one of the lucky few to think about fishing the river in January during this extended high-pressure system, kudos to you! On 2/2/26 State Park staff measured 7″-8″ of ice accessed from the boat ramp. Ice thickness is variable across the reservoir, measuring between 4″ and 6″ in other areas surveyed, with some areas of thinner ice. Always take caution and drill test holes. Expect the reservoir to be mostly covered in unsafe ice, with some shoreline areas for open water fishing. No recent reports on fishing conditions.

The dock at the main boat ramp has been removed for the winter. Much of the reservoir is covered in very thin, unsafe ice. Do not attempt to venture onto the ice. Some open water remains along pockets of the shoreline of Jet Ski Beach and Coyote Cove campground. Trout fishing has been fair, with the most action midday. Fish are hitting combinations of PowerBait

The reservoir is mostly ice-free, with some ice remaining near the dock area. Fishing opportunities are available along much of the shoreline. Trout are hitting PowerBait and night crawlers, and a few anglers have even reported catching bass on jigs.

The reservoir is largely clear of ice, with only small patches remaining. Fishing reports have been limited, but trout traditionally favor night crawlers, PowerBait or marshmallows fished under a bobber. Crappie may be tempted with small marabou jigs.

Anglers are catching striped bass along the river with trout-pattern swimbaits and Glide Baits. One angler recently landed a 17-pound striper below Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area using a favorite swimbait. Rainbow trout activity is best during the morning and afternoon hours, with the fish favoring pink and orange PowerBait, mice tails, or worms fished in shaded areas.

Large striped bass near Willow Beach are responding well to trout-pattern swimbaits, while anchovies and shad lures are also producing solid catches. Both shore anglers and boaters are seeing the most action during overnight hours. Rainbow trout are biting on gold and red spinners, as well as PowerBait eggs thrown from the fishing pier. On Lake Mohave, striper anglers are targeting fish with shad-patterned swimbaits

Recently stocked rainbow trout are responding well to a wide variety of baits, lures and flies. Meal worms, nightcrawlers and rainbow-colored PowerBait are commonly filling the three-fish limit. Rooster Tails and other spinners fool trout and an occasional bass during afternoon hours, while Hare’s Ear and Prince nymphs continue to be productive fly patterns.

Striped bass action remains good at Lake Mead, with anglers finding success using live shad and anchovies from the Boulder Beach Fishing Pier. Anglers fishing in the early morning and overnight hours are averaging higher catch rates than those fishing during the day. Boaters trolling shad-style lures in approximately 40 feet of water are also reporting steady action. Black bass fishing is improving around Callville

Current Water Conditions With the recent precipitation, flows on the Truckee River right now are slightly higher than normal for the winter season—holding around 76 CFS out of Tahoe City, 220 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 503 CFS at Farad. The bite is slower this time of year, but can still be rewarding for anyone wanting to make the trek in the colder weather.

The lake is entirely covered with ice. The ice on the southeast end of the lake is sitting at 6 to 7 inches.  The ice was not tested in the middle of the lake straight out from the large day-use cove and to the dam. Based on observation the ice quality in this area is poor and anglers should avoid it.  Anglers should always use

Approximately 50% of the reservoir is covered with a thin layer of ice. The southern half of the reservoir has open water and should be conducive to shoreline angling. Anglers could use nightcrawlers and spinners to catch trout this winter. The fishery is recovering after significant drawdown events.
