Excellent reports coming from Onion. Definitely one of the best fishing reservoirs this season in Nevada. Catch rates continue to be excellent with some trout to 14”-16” reported recently. The cooler temperatures are starting to slow fishing at Rye Patch. This summer was one of the best for smallmouth bass at Rye Patch. Although it has slowed significantly, some smallmouth are still being reported in deeper water off points and around structure. The best action is taking place in the morning hours and again at sunset when the winds are calmest. Variable weather and high winds have made it challenging to fish throughout the day. Rainbow trout have been hitting on rainbow PowerBait, night crawlers and an assortment of quarter- to half-ounce spinning lures and spoons.

Anglers have been doing well from shore. Trout are averaging 10 to 12 inches. Bass are still hitting lines later in the day, and trout fishing has been best throughout the morning hours. Anglers are using worms and PowerBait with great success. Morning temperatures have been below freezing. The boat launch ramp is closed due to low water levels. Check with Spring Valley State Park

Rainbow trout have been biting well

Rainbow trout have been biting well for the few anglers working the lake. Pink, orange, and green PowerBait have been productive. So have small spinners. Dark-colored Woolly Buggers are effective for both trout and bass. Aquatic vegetation is subsiding along most of the shorelines. While the water is still low, be prepared for muddy shorelines.

The river is producing stripers up to 8 pounds for boaters using anchovies. Fish weighing in under 2 pounds are taking baits from shoreline anglers. Most action has been reported downriver, south of Big Bend State Recreation Area. Anglers are reporting smallmouth bass catches in the same area on soft plastics. Catfish are hitting chicken livers and anchovies fished near vegetation.

Our local anglers Mike Merritt and fishing buddy Sharon Brewster are showing off a super catch of these stripers then landed. The weather was much needed

The weather was much needed, but the high winds spreads the bait fish and the fish weren’t as podded up today. We want that nice calm water to keep everything balled up. Kinda like the last week shown above. Yesterday was a banger! Today was a quite a bit tougher. In October we want mellow weather. But, you can’t catch em from the couch.

Last few days been fantastic. Rainbows, Cutthroat, Kokanee and big numbers of lakers. If you fish deep you can beat up on the spawners but the meat is soft as they are providing nutrients to eggs and milt, go mid depths from 35-65 over 80 ft and strong numbers of 1-3 lb Mack’s not mature enough to spawn but firm orange meat great for table fare

Trout action is getting even better than it has been. Anglers have been happy with their catches. Cooler weather moving through is making it prime fishing time. As aquatic vegetation thins out, fish will be more active towards the shore throughout the day. Bass may hit crankbaits later in the day. Worms and spinnerbaits are generally productive for trout.

Rainbow trout are keeping anglers busy on the river. PowerBait and Rooster Tails are helping anglers land their 5-fish limit. Striped bass activity has been hit and miss lately. Anglers are experimenting with jerkbaits, swimbaits, and pencil poppers in trout patterns. Frozen anchovies are a productive alternative.

Transitions into fall weather patterns are resulting in an increase in black bass activity on Lake Mohave. A variety of hard and soft plastics are tempting smallmouth up to 6 pounds. Green pumpkin chigger craws and bluegill crankbaits are two popular choices. In addition, striper anglers are finding fish up to 7 pounds when trolling in at least 20 feet of water near Davis Dam.
