Nevada Fish Reports

Anglers are using night crawlers and PowerBait fished below a water bobber. Due to freezing overnight temperatures, there is ice along the edges in the morning. Water levels are steady and low. Anglers will find ice along the shoreline in the morning. For trout, spinners, night crawlers, and Woolly Buggers are good options. Rainbow trout are attacking mice tails and pearl colored jigs. Many shore anglers have caught the 5-fish limit using a combination of these baits with worms. The shorelines of Casino Row and designated fishing areas near Big Bend State Recreation Area are great spots for family trout fishing. Spinners and PowerBait eggs are working for rainbow trout at Willow Beach. Striper action has slowed down for shore anglers, but kayakers have had some luck using trout swimbaits in the deeper water. On Mohave, striped bass are hitting crankbaits and spoons but are expected to move deeper in the coming week. Anglers are reporting a few smallmouth bass catches on spinners near Davis Dam.

Anglers are reporting a decline in topwater action for striped bass and are starting to fish between 80 and 100 feet. Others have still had luck with fish averaging 2 pounds when using Zara Spooks in Callville Bay and surrounding coves. Near Hemenway, anglers have found some action with live shad. Black bass are taking topwater lures and a variety of crankbaits in the shallows

The river has come up to a bit over 225 cfs through the downtown gauge and the temperatures are fluctuating from the high 30s to the mid 40s. The fish have acclimated to these wintery water temperatures and are starting to feeding midday as the water warms. Smaller nymphs under an indicator or European style nymphing has worked well. Campers and anglers have been successful lately with good size trout in the 12 to 15 inches range.  Fishing is almost back to normal with a stocking of rainbows and tigers a few weeks back. Anglers have been using PowerBait and night crawlers. Days have been warm enough to keep the edges from icing up. A few anglers at Echo Canyon reported doing well catching rainbow trout. They are using night crawlers and rainbow PowerBait. Anglers of all skill levels are enjoying the recent rainbow trout stockings in the Colorado River. Jigs, spinners, PowerBait and worms have all resulted in catches from shore. Boaters are trolling anchovies and trout lures to land striped bass between 1 and 2 pounds. There are few reports of catfish taking stink bait and anchovies near the Laughlin Lagoon.

At Willow Beach rainbow trout are biting at the fishing pier and nearby shorelines. The fish are taking soft plastics tubes, jigs and multi-colored spinners. A few reports of large striper catches have come in from boaters fishing the deeper water. Black bass anglers are seeing the most action in the Cottonwood Basin or at the south end of Lake Mohave.
