Nevada Fish Reports

The road is closed and the lake is ice covered.  There will be no fishing reports for this lake until late spring or early summer depending upon the winter.

Anglers continue to report good fishing for trout from shore.  Surface water temperatures are the high 30’s to low 40’s depending upon time of day and location on the lake. Little change here on fishing conditions as trout fishing is good and bass fishing is slow with an occasional large bass being taken. Cave Lake is sitting approximately 15 feet below normal water levels.  Fishing has been consistent throughout the year with eight to 10 inch Rainbow Trout being caught.  One exceedingly large Brown Trout over 20 pounds was caught recently, indicating that there are still quality fish left in the lake. The reservoir is currently sitting at approximately 40 to 50% of capacity due to a dry year and seeping that is occuring from holes in the reservoir.  A total of 4,050 Rainbow Trout were stocked into the reservoir in 2020.  No ice had accumulated on the reservoir and water temperatures were at 41 degrees this week.

Poor snowpack and a rainless summer resulted in the lake level dropping approximately three feet this year.  Last week’s cold snap resulted in several inches of ice that subsequently melted leaving most of the lake accessible to boat and shoreline fishing.  There is a narrow strip of ice in the “narrows” and it is uncertain if boats can break through it at this time.  Water

Similar to Comins Lake, the reservoir level dropped this year but still remains well above normal at approximately 85% of capacity.  The fall electrofishing survey revealed an average of 11.7 inches on Rainbow Trout and 13.3 inches on Brown Trout.  A total of 18,856 Rainbow Trout stocked into Illipah Reservoir in 2020.  There is currently no ice on the reservoir and water temperatures were at

The northern portion of the reservoir is covered by very thin ice. The best access for shore fishing is off the main shorelines. Anglers are using rainbow PowerBait and night crawlers with water bobbers for trout. The fishing pier and launch ramp are closed due to low water. Overnight temperatures are putting a thin cover of ice near the intake. There is open water along a good portion of the dam. Rainbow trout action has been good for those using night crawlers and PowerBait. For up-to-date ice conditions contact Echo Canyon State Park at 775-962-5103.

The striper bite is slow along Casino Row, but rainbow trout are keeping shore anglers busy. Rooster Tails in greens and yellows are landing fish between one and two pounds. To the south, anglers are reporting more striper action. The fish are taking anchovies and shad lures fished from shore near the nature center.

Anglers are catching their 5-fish limit of rainbow trout at Willow Beach. Try a combination of garlic PowerBait and worms or your favorite spinner. Stripers are still hitting shad imitators and rainbow trout lures fished from boat just offshore. In the Cottonwood Basin, anglers using topwater lures and Rat-L-Traps are catching a combination of striped and black bass. Anglers targeting smallmouth are seeing fish up

Boils are popping up throughout the day with fish averaging just under two pounds. Live shad are the bait of choice, but a variety of Rat-L-Traps, crankbaits and soft plastics in shad patterns are landing fish too. Truckee River The Truckee River has changed a lot since the last report. Flows are down to 220 CFS at the downtown gauge and water temps are starting the day in the high 30s. The trout have acclimated to this change and the fishing has been good. You may need to change your tactics as low cold water will push the fish into slower water. The

The Upper Truckee River is currently closed for fishing from Tahoe City to Trout Creek. Anglers fishing in the Glenshire area should focus on using dry flies such as blue winged olives or midges. Anglers fishing below Glenshire and Boca should use crawdads, small nymphs, and there may be some blue winged olive activity, depending on the temperature in the afternoons. Trout action has been very good. Rainbow and tiger trout are taking a variety of spinners and spoons. Bait anglers have been doing well from the shoreline using a chunk of night crawler and PowerBait or combined with a mini marshmallow. The fishing pier is still inaccessible, and the boat launch is closed. Freezing temperatures overnight are making for icy conditions early in the morning

Rainbow trout action has been very good.  The best fishing has been found by those using kayaks or floatables to get away from the shoreline. Water levels continue to rise and that has anglers finding improved action off the dam. The fish are taking PowerBait in rainbow, orange, or green colorations, as well as spinners. Shorelines are muddy and icy in the mornings.
