Nevada Fish Reports

Monday update: One of the first cutthroat was caught today since the 1900’s! #shutupandfish Over fishing of the Lahontan Cutthroat led to the ultimate demise of the population in the late 1800’s. Earlier this month the national fish hatchery complex released 5,000 Lahontan cutthroat trout back into their native waters.

Recently Mike Anderson put in the On-the-Water report that Pyramid Lake began to “turn-over” or “flip”. I thought it would be a good opportunity to review what happens to a lake when it turns over and how it is a good thing for the lake and specifically how it is a good thing for fly fishing Pyramid Lake. Nice balmy fall weather on the Truckee River.  Cold as balls in the morning. Warms up nice in the afternoon. Typical fall weather in Tahoe/Reno. As far as the fishing, well, it’s good. The boys booked it privately but only Derek got out of bed. Got couple limits of mix bag ... grand slam 4 species for me and him. Kept 8. We released few bows and another Cutthroat. Just the way we.....TROLL! Although few were on jigs!

The ranch has also been fishing very well lately, lots of streamer and nymph action going on down there. in addition to the flies san juan worm, blow torch, squirmie wormy, rainbow warrior, silver streak, dark lord, WD-40, micro mayfly, radiation baetis, LaFontaines deep sparkle pupa, Fox’s poopah, z-wing caddis, buckskin caddis, rubberlegs, dead drift crayfish, zuddler, dali lama, double bunny they’re still eating some rubberlegs

Today was survival day. Just get what we could in huge east wind waves. Ended 6 macs and 6 bows , released all bows but one that was going die. Fish were smaller today!

Big changes ahead this week weather wise.  Lows could get into the teens here in the Hirsch, highs in the upper 40’s. Nice and cold at night and cool during the day in Reno as well. We had a incredible day first with flat calm water next worth wide-open Fishing. We had a great group of guys on our open load well 37 anglers and they caught limits a rockfish and limits of lingcod to 25 pounds we are off tomorrow but will be back The rest of the week if you’d like to come out give the shop a call

Russell and his buddy Trent shared photos from their trip out to Pyramid Lake in Sutcliffe, NV.  The biggest cutthroat weighed in around 15 pounds. They were trolling flatfish on the East Side of the lake.

The striper action is picking up. The coves near the power lines are your go to spots and watch for the shad boils. Near the dam the fish seem to be a bit deeper and anchovies are bring them in to the boat. The shoreline near the dam has some great spots to try your luck. I did hear of a few anglers trolling on
