Nevada Fish Reports

The crappie bite is getting underway at this Lincoln County reservoir. The fish will hit on small jigs. White and silver are generally good colors. Bass and trout are taking almost everything thrown at them. Rainbow trout will take olive Woolly Buggers, earthworms, and PowerBait.

Striped bass and rainbow trout are hitting lines below Davis Dam. Shore anglers are catching stripers with anchovies. Catfish are more active at night and can be caught using anchovies from the shoreline near Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area.

Striped bass anglers are doing well during the overnight hours with anchovies. Black bass are taking soft plastics outside of Cottonwood Cove and above Katherine landing. Green pumpkin or similar color variations seem to be the ticket. Anglers are finding the fish in 10 to 15 feet of water near grass beds and submerged brush. Bluegill, catfish and largemouth bass are hitting well at the ponds. Bluegill are taking mealworms and grubs on small hooks. Fish them off the bottom. Fishermen at Floyd Lamb Park are finding good fishing for bass while throwing spinner baits along the tules. Catfish are taking night crawlers, hotdog pieces and chicken livers.

Heat is back for the weekend. Fishing at sunrise and sunset will bring the best results. Anglers looking for live bait have found good numbers of gizzard shad in Government Wash. Anglers netting shad are having the best luck early in the morning, just in time for striped bass action. The flows are steadily rising this week as we get our first significant bit of warm weather. This has caused the lower river (Boca Conf. downstream) to be running off color adding an additional challenge to fishermen. Don’t be deterred though as the fishing still remains good in the upper stretch around Glenshire and with the opening day of trout season starting tomorrow the 27th

The Truckee River is high but fishing well. Focus on the edges and seams near the sides of channel. These will be most productive using Stoneflies, Worm patterns and attractor nymphs.

Spring fishing has been picking up. Bait anglers are catching trout with night crawlers or rainbow-colored PowerBait. The fish also are taking a variety of other baits and lures, but gold or silver spinners have been especially good.  Largemouth bass are taking spinnerbaits, but all bass must be released April 1 through June 30 for spawning. Water levels are still high, but rainbow trout are taking night crawlers and rainbow-colored PowerBait. Bass fishing is good, but most are on the small side. Crappie fishing should improve as daytime temperatures pick up.  All campground facilities are open.

Shore fishermen are catching striped bass and catfish with anchovies. Catfish are more active at night and can be caught in some of the backwater areas. Largemouth bass are hitting white or green spinnerbaits in the marshy coves.

Anglers are finding good action for black bass in the coves outside Cottonwood Cove. Smallmouth bass are averaging 2 pounds and are taking tube baits. Green pumpkin and watermelon seem to be the colors of choice. Fish are coming from 10 to 15 feet of water near grass beds and submerged brush.

Bass and sunfish are still in spawning mode at most of the ponds but should be completing this cycle soon. Trout are still biting at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Boulder City and at Cold Creek. Mealworms are catching bluegill at Floyd Lamb Park and Lorenzi Park.

Anglers are finding shad in the early mornings and using them as live bait to catch striped bass. Coves in the Government Wash area are producing 1- to 3-pound catfish as well as stripers. Most of the fish are biting on anchovies, and the best action is starting about sunset. Black bass are hitting a variety of soft baits and jerkbaits. Look for the fish
