Big Flows and Sunshine

by MATT KOLES
Finally some spring weather on the Truckee River. Big flows and sunshine, well, except for the last couple days on the sunshine. Spring has sprung. Flows are up around 3,700 k here in the Hirsch, higher as you go downriver. Big pumping flows. Much like back in spring of ’17. We still have a lot of snow to melt. Get used to it. Don’t think you’re gonna

by JIM REID
Kind of the same story on the Sceirine, some good reports and some not so good as well. Just like on the Cali side you need to get your bugs down and get a good dead drift. The water temps are around 50 degrees now and it looks like most of the storms have passed for the time being so things should get better and

Still 50 Percent Covered in Ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Wildhorse is still about 50% covered with ice, as of Thursday, April 18, and the shorelines are very muddy. With the warmer temperatures expect the lake to be completely ice free soon.  Fishing had been good through the ice and expect it to continue this spring.  The usual PowerBait and worms for bait anglers and for fly fishermen this is chironomid season, so midge larva

Fishing Has Picked Up Significantly

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has picked up significantly with the trout bite active at all area reservoirs. Temperatures are warming up this week, but anglers should expect windy conditions this time of year. Mid-day winds can come up quickly. Bass fishing will remain slow for at least a couple more weeks.

Action Has Been Very Good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Action has been very good with bait anglers taking limits of fish with rainbow, orange, or green PowerBait. Night crawlers or red worms also will catch the fish. Anglers using lures are doing well with small spinners and Rooster Tails. Fly-fishers are using olive and other dark variations of the Woolly Bugger. Prince Nymphs and Cave Lake Specials also will catch the fish.

Fishing Off To A Slow Start

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing for rainbow trout is off to a slow start. The water is high, and that has the fish spread out across the reservoir rather than concentrated. The campgrounds are all open.

Great Catfish Areas Along The Shoreline

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Anchovies are catching catfish and stripers down the river from Casino Row. Stripers are generally in the 1- to 3-pound range, with some as large as 5 to 8 pounds taking swimbaits. Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area has some great catfish areas along the shoreline at the north and south end of the area. Rainbow trout fishing is slow, though some anglers

Lake Mohave Fishing Mid April

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Striped bass are mostly active towards the north and south ends of the lake. Black bass are spawning in the shallows north and south of Cottonwood Cove. The fish have been hitting soft plastics, but patience is key. Worms and wacky-rigged Senkos also are catching the fish. Look for signs of nesting activity near submerged brush or under tree limbs. Stocked rainbow trout are biting

NDOW Has Begun Seasonal Channel Catfish Plants

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Nevada Department of Wildlife has begun its seasonal channel catfish plants at the local urban ponds. The fish are planted monthly throughout the summer months except for July. The fish are taking chicken livers and hot dogs. Anglers may still catch the odd trout, but for the most part trout fishing is over for the season. Cold Creek received an additional load of trout

Anglers Are Catching Limits of Crappie

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Anglers are catching limits of crappie outside of Echo Bay. Striped bass are taking shad near 33-Hole, Government Wash and north of Boulder Harbor. The line sides are averaging about 3 pounds. Black bass are spawning in shallow coves throughout the east end of Boulder Basin. Soft plastics fished on Texas rigs or drop shots are generally a good choice this time of year. Spinner
