Lake Mohave Fishing Report

Up on Lake Mohave the striper bite is beginning the coves up near and around the power lines have been producing a few while near the dam has seen some of the stripers in the 5 pound range.  Our local angler Don Calvano landed  a channel catfish near the dam bait fishing from shore.  His catfish weighed in at 4.12 pounds and was 22 and

Davis Dam Fishing Report

Fishing has Been Rated Very Good

Fishing has been rated very good with anglers reporting average cutthroat in the 16 to 26 inch range. There have been a lot of fish caught in the 4 to 10 lbs range as well. Boaters have been using black or purple jigs. Shoe angler have been using green stripped spoons on the drop offs.

The Key is Depth!

The opener at Pyramid Lake has finally arrived!  Fish are in deeper water due to the 68-70 degree surface temps.  This has the fish holding in 20 to 30 feet of water.  A float tube or boat is the most effective way to fish for these monster trout right now as fish are only intermittently coming into the shallows to eat.  There is bait everywhere

Fish are Moving into Faster Water

Flows in the Truckee River are fluctuating from 350 cfs to 250 cfs at the downtown gauge depending on upstream releases and diversions. Not a lot of change on the Truckee river as of late.  Fish are moving into faster water to put on the feed bag for winter.  Search pocket water and runs moving faster than a walking pace.  Fish are being caught all times

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Summer turned to fall on the Truckee River.  I needed it.  Ain’t easy catching trouts when it’s 94 degrees out.  Ain’t easy on the body either.  We’ve had clouds, rain, and even a duster of snow on the peaks.  The fishing is much, much better on the entire Truckee River. There Seems to be More Browns Becoming Active

The ranch is still fishing very well, on par with the other sections of the river.  There seems to be more browns becoming active so this is always fun.  The flies listed above are all working well on the ranch and you could add some stonefly patterns to the arsenal.

Bass From a Float Tube or Small Boat is Good.

Water level is low due to irrigation and the weeds are up making fishing from shore difficult.  Best fishing is from float tubes or small boats.  Anglers can use a variety of presentations including worms, PowerBait, spinners and flies.  Chironomids, wooly buggers, hares ears, prince nymphs and damselfly nymphs are recommended.  Fishing for trout is slow while fishing for bass from a float tube or

Jiggs/Zunino Reservoir Fishing Report

The water level is very low and fishing for trout is fair and bass fishing is slow.  PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and dark spinners with some red or yellow accents seem to be working.  Black wooly buggers and seal buggers are producing fish and anglers may also want to try the usual nymphs especially mayfly nymphs such as hares ears and pheasant tails.  The same tactics used

All We Need Now is a Good Winter

Barrick has completed the work on the dam making some major improvements and last weekend Barrick employees and community volunteers worked with Barrick and NDOW to install fish habitat structures in the bottom of the lake while it is empty.  All we need now is a good winter to help fill it and stocking may begin next spring and summer.

Wilson Reservoir Fishing Report

The water level is at a seasonal 45% of capacity and fishing for trout is good, while fishing for bass is fair.   Trout are hitting hares ears, PT nymphs, red copper Johns, red brassies and chironomid patterns.  Black or olive wooly and crystal buggers fished on an intermediate or full sinking line should also work.  Bait anglers appear to be having good luck with garlic

Dry Fly Fishing Continues to be Productive

Fishing continues to be very good for fly fishermen using a variety of presentations as the fish are getting as much food as they can before the lake freezes over.  Dry fly fishing continues to be productive as has stripping small leech and bugger patterns.  Hoppers, stimulators, elk hair caddis, Adams, Griffith’s gnats, red quills and just about any small dry fly should still work.
