Nevada Fish Reports

The fishing continues to be great here below the Davis dam along the Colorado river.  Up near the dam is producing stripers.  This area is showing signs of catches in the 1 to 4 pound range.  Down stream the stripped bass are running in schools of this size.

Look at the 16 pound rainbow this youngster caught at the Mason Valley Fishing Derby over the weekend! It’s just 8 ounces short of the state record.

Good weather, good fish’n here on the Truckee River.  Gotta love spring. Great weather, plenty of fat healthy fish, and the Giants are playing good baseball, couldn’t get any better. Plenty of water in the river too. I’ve still been floating down on the Nevada side, streamer fishing mainly in the Nature Conservancy section. Slow streamer fishing, but still getting or moving a fish of a lifetime

The ranch is fishing excellent, of course the ranch section doesn’t get nearly as much pressure as the rest of the river so if you’re interested in some water that you can have to yourself give is a call and we can get you on the calendar. The flies that have been working on the California section have also been working well on the Sceirine. 

The mackinaw bite has been very good fishing the Cal Neva Carnelian Bay area. 150 to 240 feet of water has been most productive.  Average size has been 2 -6 pounds. Good spring fishing on the Truckee River. The season trout opener was Saturday, though most folks fish year round these days on the bigger rivers. The Truckee River is open from Lake Tahoe all the way down now. Flows are nearing 1000 cfs here in the Hirsch. The NDOW checked in today with NVFR with a special stocking report from South Fork Reservoir.  We have been planting fish extensively at South Fork Reservoir the past two weeks. Flows are High as they are releasing quite a bit of water out of Tahoe. These flows look like they will drop throughout the weekend but by how much is still TBD!
